    Hello everyone...

I have an Inspiron 1420. My internal CD drive isn't working. It's a TEAC DW224EV. I have a red x in the Device Manager and when I click 'update driver', it says my driver is up to date. The CD drive gets power and it opens, but it won't play anything. The drive letter is missing from My Computer too. I downloaded the latest driver from the Dell website, but it won't install because Windows can't find the device.

Additionally, I thought the CD drive might be bad so I purchased a new one and Windows won't recognize it either. I even purchased and external USB CD drive and Windows won't recognize it.

I have all the latest updates and I'm using Vista Ultimate w/SP1. If there's something I need to tweak in BIOS please let me know. I've browsed in the BIOS and I can't really figure anything out. P.S. I have the latest BIOS version installed.

    Thanks for any help....
