Alternatively, you could install Foxit PDF Reader. It's got a much smaller footprint than Adobe Reader and works just as well or better in my opinion. http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

I have a question. How hot should the mini 9 get? I am getting 60-64 degrees celcius on my XP Mini (2 gb ram,
16 gb SSD, Bluetooth) when streaming video or actively surfing the net. It definitely gets very warm--you can feel it on the keyboard and on the palm rests. This is in a cool room that's about 68 degrees F.
I have a second mini with Linux (1 gb ram, 4 gb SSD no bluetooth). This one, doing the same tasks, does not feel as hot . Most of the heat is on one side of the palm rest. But it's not to the degree as the XP version. I don't know of a Linux program to monitor temps or I'd have some actual numbers but it is definitely not as hot.
I am wondering if this is normal for the two different versions or if the XP one has some kind of issue. -
^^it's possible the software OS or programs are making the unit run hot.
on my xp I9, the bottom does get very warm but never outright hot. it never gets hot to the point where you wouldn't be able to touch it with your finger or hand. -
The atom chip itself is good to 90*c, so says intel at least.

Perfect, your the man.
much better and it works. -
Make sure you run CPUID Harware Monitor to get accurate temps. I'm running around 50C and ambient is 68F....just surfing.

New desktop look using object dock and some really well done icons
-
That looks very sweet!
Good job on that one.
Cin
-
Do you use the Object dock Cin?
-
I have rocketdock on my I9, but I have it disabled. *cough* I need to work with it more, and with rainmeters..all the fun stuff.
I like a pretty clean desktop!
How bout you?
Cin
-
I'm like you, I'm real stripped down clean in and out.
Adding programs and items is always hard for me....lol -
Yup! I wont' even leave the recycle bin on my desktop
The screens so small as it is, why add more too it..then needed!

Hello,
I do not know if this has been posted before, but I can not find it.
I purchased a mini 9 for my eight year old daughter, for the sole purpose of her playing the game webkinz on it. I do not know if any of you are familiar with that game or not. Well, once logging on to Webkinz, the screen is static, there is no scroll bar. Using the method alt space bar and m (as i read about on here), does not help, half of the screen is still cut off. Upon further investigation, i find that the minimum requirement for playing webkinz is the resolution 1024x768.
Well when I go in the display, the highest i can turn it up is 1024x600. it shows as the primary display labelled 1. there is also a secondary display (not active it says) that is not enabled it says labelled 2. I can change that secondary one to 1024x768 but when I hit apply, it just goes back to number 1 as being the primary display.
As you can tell, i have no idea what i am talking about, i am just trying to see if i can change the resolution of this mini dell, so my daughter can play webkinz on it.
Can anyone help me?
thank you very much. -
Yah Cin, mine is gone too. I want the whole screen when I use it.
And it's so perfect. I am interested in that 10 inch though.. yum... -
hey guys,
i won this laptop on an online raffle. i checked the warranty status, and it is only for a year (standard i assume). i have the option of extending my warranty, but for the full 4 years with complete care it will cost me a little over 300 dollars. is this price worth it? i mean the machine isnt that expensive, and i could put that money towards a new netbook if it ever fails.
i was real fortunate with my Inspiron. I had a 9300 (17 inch) and bought the four year warranty. It was eventually replaced with an e1705. This laptop failed and it was replaced with a M1730. I was real happy considering the huge upgrade. So, I check my warranty status, and it says i only have a year left (which was true), but it allowed me to buy an EXTRA four years of warranty on the M1730. I went ahead and bought it (cost about 500 with compete care), and when i look at the warranty status, it shows the 150 days left on my original warranty (Inspiron warranty) as well as over 1000 days on the new XPS warranty. I think this happened because I was switched from INspiron to XPS. So yea im not complaining.
so yes, i have been happy with dell warranty (not happy with the fact that my machines have been breaking) so is it worth it to buy the warranty for my mini 9?? -
Boy I wouldn't go for that warranty. As new ones will be out and for probably about that amount of money! Just a thought
-
I got an e-mail for Dell today about my order... Unfortunately it was not one telling me it has shipped. Instead my order has been delayed until March 6th. I'm tempted to swing by my local best buy and picking one up there. unfortunately its about $50 more and missing bluetooth. Decisions, decisions ...
-
Yeah, it looks good..But the overpricing on it, is a little unnerving.
It has to come down....
I just stayed with the Standard 1 year warranty, as it's not my *main* usage. I use my lappy more, so I had several years left on that.
I say, save your money..for something else you want!
Hmmm. Call them back and ask what the delay is about. That's about a 2 week wait. Maybe they can bump your shipping or something for you. You can advise them, that you can pick it up *right now* from BB...See what they say about that!
Cin
-
Yes the overpricing is too bad. I'm hoping it will come down when it finally comes out. Anxious to see it.
-
Yeah..and right now it will be on QVC first..so hopefully lower pricing when it hits dell.com!

Hi - I'm looking to increase the RAM in my Mini 9 to 2GB ... I know it's easily done from other posts in here. I have already ordered a Runcore 64GB SSD to replace the 16 that's in it now. My question is - which SO-DIMM's will give the best performance boost? Anyone have a recommendation?
-
Yah Cin I see it on QVC now...... I was disappointed with the specs though.
-
You should take a look at this thread at mydellmini. There is a lengthy thread on the 2GB Ram Upgrade: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/2gb-ram-upgrade-guide-t78.html
-
Were they selling a lot of them??
-
From what I heard a decent amoutn were sold....*sigh*
Cin
-
Sold on QVC? I thought they are premiering tonight?? or no?
-
yup it was on!
-
I went to Best Buy and saw the Mini 9 for the first time in person. Since most of the previous netbooks I have seen in person have been 10" (or 8.9" in a 10" body) models, the Mini 9 looked smaller than expected (which is a good thing). It made me want it even more and sooner, but I held off the temptation of walking out of the store with it.
I had been looking at some options on Ebay (tax free and some free shipping), but the prices just weren't low enough to justify a used one and buying from ebay can sometimes be more trouble than its worth. I luckily found a Black base model on the outlet for $189. Its a ceritified refurbished model and is supposed to ship out on Monday. If its coming from Round Rock, then I should get it next day since i'm only about 40 minutes away. I'm going to hold off on cancelling my order until I unbox the outlet one and give it my personal seal of approval. -
Yeah it was on earlier..I watched like 5 min of it and shut it off...Not a good deal at all at QVC..
I think you made a good choice ordering thru the Outlet..you get great deals, a nice lappy, and fast shipping..Just the same at Dell's home site, but they are only refurb's etc
$189 for the Netbook = nice, nice deal!
Yes, don't cancel the order until you receive the I9 from the Outlet, and see how it work's out for you!
Cin
-
Maybe someday in the future... the 10 inch will go cheap as well
-
Yes, about $200 less. That's just my opinion!
They will come down..prob's in about 5-6 months...like our I9's did.
Cin
-
Yup which leads back to that darn patience thing..lol but you are good at it Cin. I'm bad bad....
-
Yeah..I try to be patient...and it's very trying sometimes...
The wait was so long for the I9..but well worth it.
I am really enjoyng it's portability!
Cin
-
This worked like a charm. I haven't received any e-mail stating my outlet purchased had shipped, but I went ahead and checked fedex and its scheduled for pick up. The Dell status now shows shipped. So if it ships tonight and is coming from Round Rock, I should get it by monday.
-
Awesome! I forgot about that way to check the tracking number
Monday it is then, for you!
Cin
-
They say "shipped" when they print the shipping label, not when it's actually physically shipped, sadly.
-
I would read this and copy it down before Apple Sues them to remove it.
Hope it works on my DELL Mini 10 soon.

Actually, I wouldn't do that to my I9...and, it's against Apples EULA.
And, also discussing that is against forum rules.....
So let's move onto something else....
Cin. -
hey discussing something to make your Mini 9 like 1000% better is against forums rules who knew?
-
Hmmm...that's ones personal choice.
I'm done with this conversation. It's not right, I already stated.
I suggest you stop the discussion.
Thanks.
Cin. -
EULAs are of dubious contractual value, as they are added in after you buy the product, not before.
To be valid and binding in most states/countries they have to be presented and agreed to before money changes hands.
That said, if it's against forum rules to talk about, it's against forum rules.
The owners can make any rules they feel like, and regardless of how you feel about them you have to either follow them, or leave. -
^^^I would hope that was not directed at me. It is against forum rules to discuss it and is a good way to get an infraction, get a thread closed, or worse.
This thread is for discussion on the Mini 9, for owners..like you and myself. It's not on discussion on the above (few) previous posts that were made. We went thru this before, and the thread could've been closed.
Basically, use your head before you post..and read up on forum rules and such..and it all makes sense.
Cin. -
Cin, somehow I got lost in the last few posts..
Love my mini 9... lol -
Dont' worry about it..it's done..and it's not being spoke of again.
I lurves my Mini 9 still, too. Wished I could've enjoyed it today..was working on something else..
Perhaps tomorrow a travel to the bookstore with it will be nice!
Cin
-
Oh Cin!!! Your the best!!
-
Oh no not at all, it was a general statement more then anything else.
The rules part was aimed in Ice Cold's general direction. -
No worries, it's cool!
I was/still am having plumbing problems..and may have been a bit to *curt*..My apologies....
How is your Mini 9 working out?? I'm about to take mine out for a Sunday adventure!
Cin
-
It's great
We took it with us on a get-out-of-the-house mission yesterday to give our new cats (amusingly, my cats from four years and one gf ago) some time to explore the house by themselves.
Great fun to have a computer that cruises easily in a diaper bag and can be stashed under the seat when we head into stores.
I'm really enjoying it, enough so that i want to get another one and build a docking port for it in my car to play music and do navigation and such
Not that i have the money to buy another one, but whatever
