Lightflux - u rock! Saved me a bunch of time and trouble, and my 1700 is up and running on XP!

I haven't read all the posts in this thread yet, but while I had zero problems with the audio drivers (there is a new one on Dell's site - posted 6/08), I did have the USB problem - USB worked great until I loaded the chipset drivers, then nothing...

Fix was easy, though - just Uninstalled all USB controllers, then rebooted - and XP found and installed everything correctly.

It is probably gonna take me longer to load all my programs than it did to put XP on it...can't wait to get my stuff running!

I can never be thankful enough. I had quite a few issues- With my graphics card, wireless and USB....But various posts in this thread helped me out. So though it took me 3 times the amount of time as promised, i got there....Wireless works, graphics card works, USBs work. Have not tried MD and the card reader yet....but those are ok i guess....

    Thanks Guys

    Hello,
My laptop said there were updates and asked me to restart it. I did so, but after the XP Loading screen, i got a complete blank screen. Only the arrow was working! I had to reinstall XP...... Any clues?

Okay, I have followed these directions to the "T". Infact I have done it 3 times. As soon as the new Xp disk is put in I get a message telling me there is a compatabilty issue because i am trying to install an old version over a new one. Anybody else had these problems? If so how did you fix it?

I already had this laptop for more than two years, but I was attacked by a virus and now I decided it would be nice to take the machine's advantages to its fullest by formatting old crappy Vista and installing XP instead. :D

    A couple of issues:
The current link to the driver for the Wi-Fi is broken. Here it is:
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...-1&impid=-1&formatcnt=1&libid=5&fileid=233125

The original list doesn't include the driver for the generic video card of the Inspiron 1420 (I mean, the one that's included to us who did not buy the NVidia card with the laptop). Here it is (and I tell you it was quite hard to find online):
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=17353&ProdId=2800&lang=eng

I know this is so old, but in case you ever get to read this, download this:
