Does anyone have this piece of sh... TSSTcorp ts-ls632d drive? I tried to burn some CDs and it doesn't recognize them. Tried 2 different makes. It didn't recognize the 3rd data cd-r when I tried to read some data off of it. I guess I'll have to call Dell to request a replacement. What a experience. You pretty much have to replace every component in this laptop to make it work.
FWwise Vostro 1500 support web page doesn't have any upgrades. I tried installing DE04-2 FW but it made no difference (was listed under some inspiron model).

I have that same exact drive in my E1705. I have the same problems too, only with DVD-R's. Good luck with getting Dell to replace it. I tried that too, and all they said was "it's a software problem, so we cannot help you". So I'm just getting an external usb burner instead.

What are the media ID codes of the problem discs?

If the info here is correct, then the TS-L632D is essentially the same as the SN-S082D (they all come out of the same factory) and I attach a media compatibility table for the SN-S082D.

From what I know, from what I've read here and experienced myself. It's not a problem with certain media, it's a problem with the drive itself that Dell has known about for some time.
I have used so many different brands, and they all give the same problem.
It appears to be random too, random brands, and not everyone has this problem with this drive. As with me, it's a problem initializing blank DVD's of any brand, with others it's CD's etc.
Do a search even here on notebookreview, and you'll see many posts about problems with this specific drive.

I purchased Ashampoo Burning Studio 7 for my Vostro 1700 and it didn't recognise the TSSTcorp drive. I emailed Ashampoo and they gave me a link to change the driver and it works great.

I spoke to Dell techs tonight and supposed to get a replacement early next week. We tried deleting some stuff in the registry and ran diagnostics. As expected it didn't cure the problem.
One thing to admitt is that Dell has very nice techs. They call back and respond to e-mails promptly.
PS: I found the driver on the dell support web page under inspiron notebooks. It was newer driver but made no difference.
