Is there a way for me to get rid of the tax costs when buying a Dell laptop? I am a NY resident by the way.
-
Not really. Most states if not all charge sales tax, so no matter what you do, you are going to have to pay this tax.
-
Oh okay, I thought that there was a way around it. thanks for the quick reply!
One more question, is there a way for me to know when new dell coupons are coming out(like those 30% ones, $450 off 1499+?) Everytime that I use one of these I get this error in my order even though the coupon hasn't expired yet(I guess maybe the user limit has been reached then?) -
Best thing is to keep an eye out for one of Andrew's posts in the deals forums, they are quite often, so pick it up asap

What exactly would be the point of tax in this country if you could *get out* of paying it???
Anyway, if NY's tax is too high, you could always have it shipped to a relative's house in another state and then have them ship it to you... -
Pay the tax and go out and enjoy your police protected streets on your way to public school knowing you're paying for all of that.
-
Know anyone who lives in NH? No tax there...
-
no tax weekend starting tomorrow. not sure if it applies to NY, but it does in missouri
. check with your local government officials
or just online.
-
Move to Oregon, or have your laptop shipped there and have someone send it over to you.
-
paying for shipping twice (or even once) to save on tax?
did you do the math? -
Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
but he didnt pay tax.....I dont understand it either, like the guy who lives across the street from me, drives 70 miles round trip to the next state to get gas, its 3 cents cheaper, and to buy his groceries and whatnot, cause sales tax is 1. something cheaper -
-
as long as there is a Dell store in your state, you will pay tax unless your state is sales tax free like DE
-
Of course, the amount you could save (or not save) varies with the amount of sales tax in each state (some are 4-5%, as opposed to 8%), and the price of the system (I usually spend < $700, but apparently, many people on these boards spend $1500-$2000/system).
I personally feel that doing such a thing is kind of outrageous & don't think it's worth the hassle, but theoretically if someone really wanted to, I guess they could save a whopping $100+.

you can ship it to me and i will make sure and send it to you right when i get it
. just make sure its nice

Man I had to pay ~140$ in tax for my M90
-
My tax rate in California is 8.25%.
This comes to $132.00 tax
I ship the laptop to my friend in Oregon. (no tax in Oregon)
He ships it to me via fully insured UPS ground for $19.00 (2 day transit)
That is a savings of $113.00 - Enough for a nice upgrade (like an extra battery)
I did the math, now where's my cookie? -
When I purchased my M1710, I had called just to price the difference between an M1710 and a Insp. E1705. I told the salesperson that if I bought, I would buy on the Mass tax holiday (8/12 - 13). He told me that Dell's charge for MA tax is NOT 5 percent (normal) but a miniscule amount (turned out to be $10.65 on a $2300 laptop)
Worried that his purchase system WOULD charge me the full sales tax, I told him that IF my purchase is the same as if I had bought it on the sales tax holidays, I WOULD buy it from him. If there's "tax", I don't care as long as the amount comes out the same.
He gave it to me for the "tax-free" price.
My point: see if a salesman will "deal." After all, if your config is $1500, what do you care what part of it is tax? As long as you pay $1500 instead of $1500 PLUS tax, it shouldn't matter what part of goes to the state and what part goes to Dell!
Tax!!
