Argh, just started my shift too... Tech support for broadband...no fun!

Anyways I want in too! Ive been monitoring these forums for awhile. Ive had to disassemble a 1520 and after various issues sent it back. Two months later, purchased a Vostro 1400 (which I love to death) But had screen issues! After about 5 replacements though, Im happy with my SEC4457 1440x900. So...Ive disassembled that one too.... any general questions for either laptops, just ask as I've had them both completely disassembled to both replace screens, and apply some arctic silver 5 and OC! (which I was able to OC the 8400m gs from 500/600 (core/gddr) to 650/1000! I dont understand the nVidia problems announced recently that are pointed indirectly at the 8xxx series!

So...Im going to grab a Dell Team Icon and throw it in my sig if you dont mind!

Soo...started a little project because I had some free time today. I just wanted to know if you guys think it'd be used at all. Check it out here:

The only combination that works currently is the XPS m1530 / nVidia 8600m GT...but I think it could get some use seeing as how many threads are about GPU temps. People could get easy access to which drivers have the lowest temps/best 3D mark scores (not implemented yet) and such.

Go there, click XPS m1530, then 8600m GT. A place for people to compare driver versions, temps, etc. It'll take a couple of days for me to build and I figure it could be a useful tool but...nevermind lol.

Woooooooooo! It just got here...I think I have a little keyboard bulge ...I'll have a tech look at it before I send it in though. I don't feel like opening it up already.

 

Congrats on the new lappy! How bad is the keyboard bulge? I'm just wondering so I can compare when i get my 1530...

Mine came without any faults, besides the covering of the mics/webcam wasn't pushed in so I had to push those in.

Cin', I'm going to be relating to you . A friend and I are going to be riding bikes to campus in a few minutes, so I'll be going on a long bike ride!!

 

They keyboard bulge isn't terrible. It's noticeable, but it almost seems like it's going down as I use it more. In any case, I'm going to have a tech look at sometime soon, maybe next week. No time this week.

Open the link, fill out your GPU info...hopefully get that post alive.

 

I had to get mine replaced twice. Third one is good. No issues at all. Keep at them, and you'll get a perfect system.

 

Is a keyboard bulge something that the whole system really needs to go back for? It's not that bad...I figured it was just a wire or two in the wrong spot...something that could be fixed pretty easily. The case isn't warped or anything.

 

I' ll def fill it out once I get my 1530.

I really hope it's not gonna be too bad... I just don't feel like dealing with cs much more.

 

I've read in other posts that it's just a wire in the wrong spot and only requires 4 or 6 screws to be removed in order to fix it so I doubt you'll have to return the whole system.

 

To anyone who got the LED LCD: I'm very sorry...

Why you ask? You'll never want to go look at a non-LED display again. I don't know if it's the fact that this is an LED backlit display or the fact that it's just newer & better but it's seriously hard for me to look at my desktop display now (about 8 months old, Samsung 206bw 20"). The whites look...yellow (on my desktop).

On my laptop...I'm amazed at the clarity and the quality of color reproduction. Wow...just...wow.

 

Sounds awesome... I never planned on getting a LED screen considering the upgrade is $200 CAD but I was lucky enough Dell had a good sale on the 1530 with a LED backlit screen.

 

Trust me Cee, you won't regret it. It's awesome. Haven't put any games on it yet (waiting til tonight when I have time to reformat and stuff), but just viewing webpages is great. The added brightness on the screen is much easier on the eyes too.

 

Sweet, I really hope I'll get it tomorrow although I'm starting to doubt it...

 

Ehh.. I disagree about the LED. I love my LED, don't get me wrong. I love how bright and crisp it is. My wife has a newer low-end Dell 19 inch widescreen LCD for her desktop, and the colors and brightness are incredible, even better the the LED on my 1530. It depends on the quality of the screen I guess.
