Hey everyone, sorry I haven't been on here much today, I've been really busy :D Anyways I have a question for anyone who has a 1530. How do I adjust the screen brightness to anything other than the pre-set brightness levels? For instance, 100% screen brightness seems way too bright but the next brightness level (84%) is kinda too dark... so I'm wondering how I can use maybe 90% brightness or something in between the standard 100% and 84%? Rep to anybody who knows :)

Unfortunately, CeeNote, I don't believe there is a way unless you manually adjust it in the nVidia control panel. :(

I see, did it come pre-installed on the 1530 because I checked in program files and couldn't find it?

Right click the desktop, nVidia control panel should be in the middle.

This isn't true brightness of the LCD, but it should tone it down to what you'd like.

For the most part... I would really like to change the screen brightness to something in between the standard 84% and 100% but can't really figure out how to do it, the nvidia control panel doesn't seem to help much. 100% just seems too bright and 84% is pretty dark. There also seems to be some backlight bleeding which I haven't noticed right away so I'm trying to see what I can do about that.

Other than that I am extremely impressed by the combination of an awesome design, great build quality and a really awesome keyboard :D ;) I didn't really expect this :)

It's so nice to own a laptop.

Surprisingly, I never use my desktop anymore.

    E8400, 4GB RAM, Asus P5E, 8800GT 512MB, 500GB 7200RPM HDD, etc etc.

This laptop does everything fine, and on the go!! :)

Great! Working and other stuff, getting my 320GB 7200RPM Seagate Momentus today which I'll be swapping into my M1530 and using the 250GB 7200RPM as an external. Its coming with Free EXPRESS shipping, but they havn't provided me with a tracking number yet so kinda worried. I still hope it comes out today.

Hey everybody! well sadly enough, i decided that i couldn't handle the screen of my new 1530 :( The backlight bleeding is just too much. So right now I'm trying to figure out if i should exchange it or return it or whatever.
It's weird; i've never had any problems with any standard glossy wga res screens but every time i want something fancy i end up regretting it  Hopefully I'll have better luck next time! :)

Here's a pic of the backlight bleeding (it's a LED screen btw):

That bottom part looks like a huge solid white line. That I don't have, I think my bleeding is minimal.

I think part of it has to do with the noise on your camera. I think you should just request a replacement and since you can hold on to your old while while its processing, compare the two notebooks when the replacement arrives and choose which one to keep. Win Win Situation :)

The white line on the bottom is just the taskbar. I don't think it's really the noise of my camera; it's just as unevenly lit in person. It's noticable even when i'm browsing the net; part of the screen is just way darker than other parts.

Yikes, I say you exchange it ASAP! Dell's pretty nice about it, they let you use the one you have right now while they send you a new one. Plus, when you return it, you still get to keep the battery (so you'll have two!).
At least, that's what happened with my dad's XPS m1210.

what a day... I just returned my new laptop :( :) I decided against getting a replacement because I realized that I don't need half the features so i'd rather save up some cash for a decent digital camera or something like that. :D

    That sucks :(

I'd get Montevina, but I figure this:

I only need my laptop for the occasional game; If I need to play more powerful games, my battery life would only be drained more. Also, I only need it for web browsing and typing up documents for school come fall time.

Don't see how Montevina will really benefit me besides being "faster", of which I don't really need at this point in time. When I do (two years maybe? A year??), I'll just get a new laptop.

Yeah I decided to wait for montevina especially since i heard that the release date has been moved to next monday. I just want the newest tech for once even though i know it won't be noticeably faster. As for gaming, I bought the m1530 with the 8600m gt so that i'll be able to play a bunch of newer games but somehow i realized in the last couple days that i'm not much into gaming anymore... so i'll probably end up getting a laptop with a 3450 or some other lower mid-range card.

Morning Cin! It's kinda weird because I've never had any problems with standard 1280x800 screens but everytime I decide to get some "fancy" screens I end up regretting it... Next time I make it a point only to get a 1280x800 screen lol. :)

    Afternoon Dell team,
Just thought I`d post a positive Dell story.
The power brick for my 1420 has been getting hotter and hotter., to day it was the hottest it`s ever been. Actually uncomfortable to hold in my hand. I went on Dell chat , explained what was going on and the first response was....I`ll send you a new one in 2-3 business days. I realize this was just a simple problem, but it was nice to get such a quick, positive offer to replace the ac adapter. I just hope they send it.

Hope you all have a great weekend

New hard drive supposed to come in today, but enclosure is coming on wednesday :(

Anyone know if I can just take out the old hard drive, stick in the new one out of the box, then have Dell Mediadirect disc autoreformat it when I designate partitions or the Windows Vista disc?

Just so I don't have to wait for my enclosure to arrive to reformat.
