    hello guys

Ok I installed steam with team fortress 2 and portal on my dell 1530. WHen I clicked on the .exe file, the game started loading and its weird because the resolution changed my desktop as it loaded, so I clicked around with my mouse then it loaded to the game screen, then it went to desktop, then it kept cycing over and over again untill I just did a ctrl + alt + delete and restarted the computer.

Whe I restarted, the desktop resolution was changed to the lowest resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1024 x 768, so I set it back to the higher resolution. When I started the game again, I didnt press anything and it laded fine, the resolution was low and I changed it to my natural desktop resolution of 1680 x 1050.

Now my question is, has this happened to anyone else with any of the steam games? It kept cycling back and forth from windows to ingame title screen. I have windows vista for my 1530, and I was wondering if it could have change more stuff other than my resolution when it did that windows cycling on me in which I restarted and the reolution on my desktop was changed and set to a lower resolution.

    Thanks would appreciate any answers

Hi. This has also happened to me with Team Fortress 2 several times. Despite the updates Valve is releasing there still seem to be some problems with Steam. What also happens quite frequently is that after I quit TF2 I get a Vista error saying that hl2.exe crashed. Looks like Valve still has some bugs to fix.

I have had issues with STEAM on my 1720 when running the HL2 games. I have found that if I leave the mouse/KB alone until the game menu is presented it will work fine.

One thing I have seen every time I play is that the game freezes up for about a minute after 20-30 or so minutes of play then when I quit there is a warning exclamation triangle in the system tray and a message that the video driver basically crashed and recovered.

I personally have a rather large amount of crashing while playing any HL2 game on Vista. I'm not sure exactly who to blame the problem on, be it Valve, Nvidia, or Microsoft. However I can say that using WHQL drivers instead of the builds from LV2G did cut the number of crashes in half. Another thing I've seen to do is turn off DEP for the hl2.exe file, which also seemed to cut back on the number of crashes before I even updated my graphics drivers. Alt+tabbing out of TF2, which used to give me a guaranteed crash, now not only works but occurs instantly, even faster than my desktop ([email protected], ATi 3870) with XP.

when that windows cycling thing happened to you guys, did it set the resolution to a lower resolution when you restarted the system?

what happened to me was when it did this for the first time, I did a ctrl + alt + del and i restarted system. Since it was the first time I ran TF2 on my 1530, the resolution was default to a lower resolution.

So when it did that windows cycling, I restarted and when I got back to my desktop, the resolution was changed to the lower resolution, Now I have some questions:

    1. Did this happen to you guys before when you restarted? the desktop resolution changed to a lower resolution?

    2. You think that it changed any other settings on my computer besides the resolution that I may not be aware of? (>.< please tell me something no)

But I changed back the resoltuion to my high resolutiona nd everything was fine.

Thanks for the added feedback guys apprecaite it, nice to know it wasn't only me
