Hey guys, I got my new studio but it has some issues. I called tech support, told them my symptoms and without having me check anything he told me to send it back. Does that seem right for these symptoms?
1. It randomly goes into sleep mode while I'm using it, after waking it back up I get an error saying windows did not shut down properly.
2. the HDD seems to be in constant activity even when I'm not doing anything
3. When the computer is off but plugged in there is a faint high pitched noise coming from the left side. It goes away after unplugging it.
4. the monitor seems funny to me, but i don't know if this is normal or acceptable for the Studios?
Here's a pic of the monitor

Also I tried to reinstall the software hoping it would solve the problems but it wouldn't boot from the CD. I would get to the boot option window after pressing F12 during startup, I'd select the CD drive and then it would just ignore the command and start up normally.
What do you guys think. Should I not mess with it anymore and just send it back?
-
I would send it back. I see lots of stuff wrong with it, poor quality control on Dell's part.
-
wow, that screen is messed up... send it back
-
Yeah, that looks bad. Call Dell on the carpet.
-
OK, thanks guys. I really didn't know what kind of quality to expect but I'm glad to hear this isn't acceptable.
-
daaaaauyyyuumm refund
-
Yup send it back and get a new one.
-
what is this on down side of the screen/display
it looks like crazy leds
or may be it is just from the angle and the light -
Weird top right Corner all 3 lights on thats distracting
Wifi Bluetooth and solid disk activity.
My hard disk light rarely comes on now that I disabled Super fetch and Indexing its like always off. -
Be sure to send that back right away, and get that replacement that everyone has commented you should.
That's just poor quality..

Yeah, It's going back. He said I had to call Customer service first but they wouldn't be there until monday.
Those lights along the bottom are always visible from any angle, (I call them stage lights).
The hard disk light is constantly blinking. It never stops.
At first i thought it was going into sleep mode but now i realize it's actually shutting down. That must be the reason for the Windows error. The only way to activate it after it does that is to press the power button a few times. it doesn't always respond.
Bummer. I hope it won't take forever to get a new one and I hope they don't try to fix this one and send it back to me. I don't trust it anymore.
Thanks for the responses guys. -
I just called Dell. They said no return until I have a technician look at it first. He said they'd replace the motherboard, but will that solve the crappy monitor problem?
-
-
After this 3 days - you will meet the technician, support guy and other slow things...
Sadly! -
They told me the same thing for my first Studio 17 (that I couldn't get it exchanged for a new one) but I called back a minute later and asked for a refund instead of an exchange. They quickly tried to convince me to take an exchange, which is what I wanted from the beginning. I think you should call back and try again. It makes no sense to have to get your brand new laptop repaired. -
i had to send a 1537 back that i received last week as well. speakers were busted and vista was acting very buggy.
-
OK, I finally did a complete refund and got my shipping label emailed to me.
Now I'm back to where i started, but i don't know if i want to try another Studio or look into something else. For the same price i payed for the Studio with upgrades i could get the studio XPS with better specs. The studio XPS is one fugly looking machine in my opinion though.
Tech support says I should return my 3 day old 1537
