    HI,
About a week ago my display would intermittently scramble like a digital puzzle , then go out completely.Got Dell chat and was told it was the lcd, I thought it was the video card. They sent a tech to replace the lcd and nothing. Turned out to be the video card. Next visit 3 days later to replace motherboard(video card) all seems fine till computer heats up and now fan doesnt come on. Computer is now so hot after minimal use you can barely touch it. Another Dell chat session and they are sending another tech to replace heat sink and fan. I think it`s a big coincidence that fan dies immediately after tech visit, just wondering what you all think?

I will bet you a dollar that the tech forgot to plug the fan cable into the motherboard when he put stuff back together. Open it up and take a look. If I'm right, PM me and I'll give you an address to mail that dollar. :p

I`m sure your right, i`ve never done more on this computer than add memory. Is there a Dell site with some instructions regarding opening it up enough to check on the fan?

I know it says you have to remove the whole motherboard to access the heatsink/fan, but odds are you'll be able to at least see the cable long before that. Remove the palmrest and see if the cable or its slot are visible.

You were right on the money, the tech found the fan disconnected. I thought it would be too much of a coincidence that the fan died at the exact same time that someone changed out the motherboard.

Heh, smooth. That's why I stay in the room with the techs when they work on my system...they always manage to miss something. One forgot the subwoofer power cable, another forgot the DVD drive (the entire thing!), and another one forgot to connect one of the internal USB power cables.
