Don't see this posted here yet (at least not easily found in my search) so here goes-
Found this randomly, it's a very interesting consumer research project run by Dell, where users can give feedback about Dell products and what you would like to see more of, less of, and none of in the future. A hot topic here is bloatware and the like.

Well, it was covered in news here:

While removing junkware would be very consumer friendly, the question is, are you willing to spend $30 - $50 more on a PC? A post at LenovoBlogs.com by a ThinkPad design guy indicates why companies do this (to make money, and pass on the savings so they can sell the sytem for less).

I think most of us, given the choice, will take the $ savings and spend an hour uninstalling or customizing our system like we would anyway. -
I have not seen that post but it is why they are cheaper. And I am afraid a Dell would be more than 30-50 dollars. I hate bloatware but ask which ones maybe I can help you. There was one on my E1705 that was terrible and I had to get an uninstaller for it. It had to do with games. Try uninstalling what you can and delete the left overs with spywareblaster, spybot destroyer and adaware that did get most of mine but the game god I can not remember the name but it has to be uninstalled with an uninstaller. I had to reinstall then uninstall with the uninstall tool from that company and it was hard to find. It was WildTangent kill that puppy.

this is not that much related but if you customize a system now they will change settings like not installing microsoft games for like 2 extra. Check it out it is nice to see they are offering stuff like that but it is a ripoff in my opinion

I also don't mind bloatware if they make the PC cost less. Clean reinstallation takes less than an hour, so it really doesn't matter.
But I would like if DELL sold their PCs without an OS. I know they have a limited number of Latitude models with preloaded Linux; but if you compare prices they are actually more expensive than Windows preinstalled ones. What I'm talking here is not having to pay for the OS, it has nothing to do with getting a clean hard disk.

I guess the $50 puts things into perspective, Andrew - I guess I'd rather get a VERY bloated machine that costs less. I am anyway going to wipe it clean for Linux. In fact, can I get a notebook with MORE bloat for 100$ less? (LOL) -
im just wondering, why do they even put bloatware in the first place??

Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
They get paid to do it, the pre installed trial versions are there in your face, if they just gave you a cd with the the trials, hardly anyone would ever use them, preinstalled trials are there ready to run, some people will try them out, and possibly buy the full version.
Even if I recieved a machine with no bloatware at all, I would still reformat and reinstall, but thats just me. -

I am really afraid it would make the computer cost much more than anyone realizes. I hate it just like everyone else. There is another side to that and it is why they pay Dell or other companies to do it. I for instance needed a photo software Corel was there opened it tried it wow got one copy. I normally use Photoshop. I bought it because it was a little easier than Photoshop and a lot cheaper for my wife and kids to use. My dad did the same thing on another program. I do have my own favorites for all software but it is sometimes nice to try other stuff as long as it uninstalls easy if you dislike it and I hate bloatware!!!! But i also have to admit there are some I try and end up liking. Dumb to fall for it but hey it has workes out sometimes. Now if they go overboard that is where it gets sad. I like google for instance but do not like G desktop or tool bar that can be uninstalled. It is the ones I do not want that can't be uninstalled that really Pxss me off. WildTangent is a nigthmare!!! Just my two cents.

I think but I do not know for sure about bloatware. I know that google stuff is a financial deal I read it somewhere reliable. I suspect most of it is to some degree.

I love decrapifier ! It was the first program installed on my new E1505
Tell DELL what you think about bloatware!
