Hey I am just wondering if anyone can recommend a good Temperature monitor for my dell studio laptop. I would just like to keep an eye on the GPU and CPU.
Thanks

HWMonitor or Rivatuner. the latter takes a bit to set up but will show you an in-game overlay of your temps as well.

can anybody tell me what should be the normal temperature of gpu ati mobility radeon 3450 mine is 50-55 celsius in stand by or normal working mode and while playing games like warhead or gta iv it goes to 70-75 celsius.i want to know r these temperatures normal???
-
Yeah it is normal!
It was very strange for me on first look too, but 50-55 C is very normal for this GPU!
I had my motherboard (GPU is on the motherboard) replaced and the result is the same!
50-55 C - standart
70-80 C - in games
Don't worry, be happy -
hmm I am getting around 64 degrees at normal work for my GPU. Is that a bit high
-
my temperatures were/was around 48-50 C!
Now my video card temperature is 50-55 C!
We tested one Mac Book with issue and strangly its GPU temp was around 60 C!
60-65 C for some machines are normal GPU temperatures (especially if your thermal "tabs" are not very good)...
More important here is your maximum GPU temperature - over 90 C -and you are in danger zone... -
I got 91 Degrees C after playing Team Fortress 2 for an hour or so. Now I'm worried that my heatsink/GPU is defective.

I used I8kfanGUI for fan/heat management with no problems on my old Dell Latitude C610 (my faithful laptop for the last almost two years). Based on that my thought upon seeing it mentioned here was "that'll work for my Studio? Awesome!"
Not so much.
If I tried to change its operating mode to anything beyond Show All Temperatures, it would freeze the computer completely for 8-10 seconds at a time, broken up only by half-second or shorter intervals. It was interesting trying to use the trackpad (which only registered input during those brief intervals) to try and get the pointer down to the system tray icon so I could then use the keyboard (which was buffering inputs, thank God) to switch it off.
So, caveat emptor.
A shame; that was a really, really useful little program on the Latitude C610. -
JazzMX5 you are wrong!
I tested it on my own Studio and I8kfanGUI worked fine!
Download I8kfanGUI version 3.1, and use Vista x32 / x64
For X64 version you need to play with F8 and Disable Driver Enforcement...

Mechanized Menace Lost in the MYST
I am idling at 46- 50 degrees and when i play games it goes up to 59 degrees why is mine so low?
-
With Windows Vista SP 2 X64 I am idling between 48 - 50 degrees...
Active mode - 48-55 C
IN New Games - around 78-80 C maximum....
Something very important - the notebook do not have thermal paste, they use something like thermal label.
My English is bad sorry, but It is not like normal CPU/GPU thermal paste.
It is hard matter/material.
Something like thermal stopper/rubber!
I KNOW IT BECAUSE I HAD MY MOTHERBOARD REPLACED (INCLUDING GPU - VIDEO CARD)!AND THE GUY just remove "the thermal rubber" and after put it back on.
By the way on "the thermal rubber" I saw Ati's logo!
This thermal rubber are somehow spoil very hard to your Ati Chip!
This is why "Ati's logo" was on it!
SO I guess your "thermal stopper/rubber/thing" is better!
but 48 to 55 degree in normal mode is typical for Studio - trust me! -
I'm using 32-bit Vista... it just didn't want to play nice with my Studio.
That's okay, it seems far more efficient at keeping itself cool than my old Latitude C610. Not a big deal. -

Hi all!
Got a 1537 myself since Nov08.
What bigdarkmad means is, that the 3450 does (by default) not have thermal paste, but a thermal pad instead between itself an the heatsink. I don`t consider this as optimal, but theres no way around it, because theres this one millimeter of space between the heatsink and the die itself.
While playing around with that, i also saw the ATI logo (written on the chip surface) virtually burned into the pad...high pressure from the sink and simply heat! I couldn`t let go an added some th.paste on the chip and the sink, got temps down about 2 c.
I usually get 55-60C in Vista 32, when playing 75-80. I got the same lagging issue that jazz described, no matter what i do with the driver enforcement. i8k doesn`t even find a fan sensor..it`s just too old i guess.
btw the hd3450 sink itself is just a piece of aluminium attached to the fancase, no heatpipe. It could run so much cooler if only dell used a 2nd heatpipe. anyway, i love that laptop! cheers -
Sorry to bring up an old thread but I had a similar concern with my Dell Studio 1555. I was getting 40-50 degrees idle, which was okay, but the real concern was gaming. I play WoW and TZ02 hovered around 80 degrees, with spikes up to 85 and once even 89 degrees.
However, I noticed that when running off battery the temperature while gaming was only around 60 degrees, but (in WoW on low settings anyway) I noticed no difference in graphics performance. I assumed that something was scaling the graphics chipset to conserve battery life. However the Vista (I'm running Vista 64bit SP1) power profile is "High Performance" on battery and plugged in so that couldn't be it.
But I checked in the Catalyst Control Centre and at the bottom there is a section for "PowerPlay". In that it was set to "Maximise Performance" when plugged in and "Maximise Battery Life" when running from battery. I just set it to the battery life option when plugged in and now even when gaming it never peaks over 65 degrees.
