I finally jump in and order my 6000 and wait a week to get it, delivered today and power up and complete the set up and all is great untill I shut it down to restart and it wont come on........ After doing research on my desktop and coming up with nothing I try again, it starts up with the first error screen stating that the temp. was to high. I thought it might have been because it was on my lap. So I explore it more and install Office and continue setting up and I get the idea to shut down and see if it comes up. Well it doesnt so Im on the phone to Dell, glad I was on hold for few minites to calm down. After the tech did all he could, he sugested that I send it in for repair, my statment was NO that was not acceptable and I want a new one sent out ASAP. He talked to the supervisor and agreed to place the order with overnight shipping.
Is there a setting for the temp. so this doesnt happen?
The tech was actually great help.

I would suggest downloading and running MobileMeter to see what temperatures your hard drive and processor are running at. The CPU - for a Pentium M - should idle around 40-50*C (depends on the notebook; for something along the lines of the i6000, I'd say 45-48*C). If you are getting higher than that while not doing anything, then there is a definite problem.
Having the notebook on your lap can be a problem - were you blocking the fans? -
I had it on my lap the first time but not on the second.

my suitmates i6000 runs about 35-40C at idle. that is with a 1.5ghz Pentium M. I would think yours should be along the lines of that.
Edit: Is this bios saying that the temp is hot? I would try entering bios and looking in there. -

Rodallg,
I would do the same thing you did, if it overheated I wouldn't want it to be repaired, I would want a new one. Good going on requesting it. I hope you have better luck with the new one. -
I downloaded I8KFANGUI and I get temps of CPU and HD between 30 - 35C
Waiting to turn back on to check bios.
My fan was on while it was on then I noticed it was off. -

Rodallg,
It has different settings depeding on what you set them at. It could be that the CPU or GPU is cool enough to where it doesn't need the fan. Once it hits a certain temp it will turn back on depending on the settings.
That is what I got out of your last sentence. -
Everything that I see tells me that its not getting hot. So something else is wrong, I can check it out untill the other one comes.
Thanks -
possibly a bad sensor...
