Had a sub-contractor from Dell today replacing my 1520's WSXGA display, also replaced HD which was imaged, installed display and left, imaging of new HD takes about an hour. Well after the imaging was done i noticed a translucent horizontal line, like where the task bar would be, a burn in.

Not including the display face is soft like a membrane, the original had a hard casing (like glass), not including when i watch movies it looks grainy.

These damn tech's are installing refurbished junk in my opinion, not including the damn light bleed is still there, I'm really pissed.

It takes modern LCDs years to show any effect of "burn in".

ok, then how do you explain the translucent line in the bottom or the dark spot in the right bottom corner, either they fix it or they eat it, i am complaining to them at this very moment. I've wasted over 3 hr's of my time dealing with Dell and my patience level is getting thin.

I think its a bad panel or installation, not burn in.

could very well be, I removed the bottom right screw assuming it was too tight and that did not alleviate the fault, your 1520 has the hard case display correct as mine had, now I have this old style soft membrane junk.

You are correct in that all replacement parts are refurbished. The line is most likely a defect in the display or an improperly seated lcd cable. I would suggest using the Unresolved Issues link on the right side of your Dell support home page with your case number and a decent documentation of your experience to get something done about it. If you don't have Gold service this atleast gets you in touch with an American rep who has more authority to get your issue fixed as promptly as possible. Good luck!

Good question, it did not occur to me to ask that, if the 2nd repair fails, more then likely i'm done with these people and buy another brand altogether.

wow, im typing this minutes after the dell guy left my house.

He replaced my WGXA+ screen becasuse of the graininess. ( I Had an AUO screen)
Now I have an LG WXGA+ screen with 0 graininess!!! its freaking perfect!

I seriously recommend trying to replace your screen.

They replaced the WD scorpio 5400 HD for the seagate 7200.2 model, seems the seagate is quieter but noticed the shutdown is the same with identical applications running during this process.

What's your opinion on these drives???

I've got an AUO and 2 LG's on my Dell lappies, and I like them all. I think the AUO's are generally ok; from what I hear, it's the Samsung's ya gotta pray you don't get stuck with.
