Terrible batteries for Dell 1505/6400, will they do something about it?

Hi, from the day I opened the box, I have been unsatisfied with the life of my 6-cell battery on my Inspiron 6400. I now notice that this terrible battery life is also ephemeral. I keep getting less and less time out of the charge. I now get about 1 hour of web browsing from a single charge.

When looking for a replacement, I saw that the Dell website was filled with bad reviews from frustrated costumers for both the 6-cell and 9-cell offerings.

This seems rather unacceptable coming from Dell...

Are there alternatives? Will Dell do something about this?

Oops, I have to go look for an outlet, my battery is at 10%...

    Thanks,

    GL

Just a question when your browsing the internet, are you doing anything else like are you multi tasking because that will also eat a lot of your battery power and if ever your system is still w/in a year call Dell and have thenm replace your battery because batteries only have a year of warranty. It does not cover the same warranty as your system just in case you have extended your warranty.

I am often multitasking, but that's slightly beside the point. I am trying to understand how Dell can keep selling laptops equipped with such low-quality batteries, and get away with it. The batteries seem to last exactly the duration of the warranty that covers them (~1yr) and the battery life is poor to mediocre. My older (and cheaper) Acer still has much better battery life than my new Dell.

You also have to factor in how well you cared for the battery...

If you stored it in your laptop all the time, for instance, that could have shortened its lifespan. Due to added charge/discharge cycles as well as a high ambient temp.

I gotta agree with the 1 year life thing. My 9 cell battery died about a month after the warranty ended. One day it was fine and I had 3:15 hours lifetime and the next day it just never booted and my battery indicator flashed orange/green to indicate a dead battery. Good thing Ebay sells them new for halft he price of Dell. As cheap as that may be from Dell, I loved every minute of the 3:30h lifetime it gave me during it's working year compared to the 1:45h lifetime I used to get from my old 4cell Asus. Sooooooo usefull for 3 hours University classes.
