I just had to register and thank NotebookReview and its memebers. The reason I am here is because I just ordered my e1707, but before I had submited the order I wanted to research the difference between the GeForce Go 7800 and 7900gs.

Thats not the important part though, as I was reading the forums I kept hearing people comment about a 750$ coupon they used to order their machines. After looking into it a little more I found the coupon (which i eventually learned was hidden somewhere on Dells sight). Thankfully I had not submited my order yet. So what did I do? I added 750$ worth of stuff to the laptop.

What I ended up getting because of this fourm is the:
e1707 with the higher quality display, the 2ghz duo, 2gb of 667mhz ram, 100gb 7200rpm harddrive, geforce go 7900gs, soundblaster card, 9 cell battery, and a few other good things, not to mention i threw in the backpack.

So again thank you everyone, the fact that I accidently stumbled onto your fourms helped me out more than you can imagine.

PS: sorry If this is not posted in the proper category, I just didnt know where else to post it.

I dont know if you have ordered from dell before or not, but their estimated ship dates are overestimated, it usually comes earlier than they say it does.

I ordered my E1505 on Friday May 19th, it was up to Boxing May 20th, then In transit to Local Carrier on the 22nd, then shipped the 23rd UPS Ground, then it arrived the 25th of May, Dang was I excited that day, I sneaked out of class early and raced home to open up my new e1505 =)

When mine arrived, the first thing I did was format it and reinstalled Windows XP, I removed the restore and media direct partions, since I had no use for them, and i could use the space for my files and stuff. Besides, I had better programs to put on my e1505 than Dell's preinstalled junk. Its nice for some people the preloaded stuff, but it just wasnt for me. If you decided to format and reinstall windows, make sure you burn your drivers for the e1705 to a CD or manage to get them from your old PC onto your e1705, because you wont be able to get onto the internet without the network and/or wireless drivers.

http://support.dell.com/support/dow...&s=gen&SystemID=INS_PNT_P4_9400&os=WW1&osl=EN - Drivers download page for the E1705

Did you order the Windows reinstall CD when you ordered your e1705? If not I hear its relatively easy to obtain from dell support.

Yes I did, and I was planning on blowing it away, but did not know about the drivers, so I will make sure to do that. I was intending on leaving the media direct partition, it is completely seperate of windows correct? If i reformat but leave that partition intact, it will still work right?

The partition you need to 'keep' is the Dell Utility [~40 - 80MB] partition. After you get Windows reinstalled you will need to run the MediaDirect 2.0 Repair utility [On the Drivers and Utilities CD or download from Dell]
