The Delay Club

So i guess I'm the newest one to join the delay club. I chatted with some ignorant guy this morning who insisted on telling me that my order would ship today. He eventually just told me to call the sales people. I did and got some nice lady named wella who told me my shipping date was delayed to sept. 4. I asked if i could get some compensation and she said that she'll send me a $75 coupon when it ships. O well... I have a good feeling that it will ship a lot sooner though. hopefully before the 23rd when i go to college.

 

congrats on the compensation... how long were you on hold before a sales rep got to you?!?! I was on hold for up to an hour total grrrr!!!!

Now that $75 coupon does that take $75 off your current laptop purchase or is that towards future purchases?

Mine is basically the same as yours, except its blue and has the 7200 rpm HDD. Also no Wireless N/bluetooth/web cam

 

Just got the email its delayed

I am sorry to inform that the order has being delayed, the new estimated shipping date for the order is on or before 8/28/2007.


Why do they wait til the day of to tell you its delayed, surely they knew before today. Time to call.....

 

Yeah, there is no doubt that they know! However, they pretend like they don't and this is what's frustrating about the whole thing! I was told on numerous, NUMEROUS occasions not to worry because my laptop was going to ship out on time. I was told, despite the fact that my laptop was in preproduction just two days before the shipping date, that I could expect to see it on the 6th of this month. I was assured that it would arrive on time! So many times reps told me that it was going to come to me, over and over again! Then the ****** day of, my dad gets a voice mail saying its delayed. WTF!! My dad's cell phone number wasn't even the primary number I gave them! This is the part that gets me mad the most, hearing from all the reps that it will ship out on time even though it is in PREPRODUCTION!!!! Ugh!

I guess I'm even more mad about it today because I'm already in a bad mood!

yeah but it seems in Europe pre-production is equivalent to the build stage in US.

 

Just got my delay letter, too.
My EDS was august 14th, now it is - or rather it should be - september 5th.

I'm gonna cancel the order. I needed the laptop for a job whose deadline is september 3rd. I will order later on this year, taking advantage of price reduction in Intel's microprocessor and in the other pieces of technology.

What the heck, it is easy to sell at a low price if you deliver your systems two months later, when the procs are nearly 200 bucks cheaper, and prolly the ram is gone half its price.

 

seriously, they should drop the price of these laptops EVEN MORE because of how much they are messing things up! They should lower the price by $200.. then maybe we'd all be a little happier

I talked to the dell rep the other day and they dont even know when the new ESD is -_-.

And cause Im in Canada I most likely wont get any compensation at all.

You're right.

I'm gonna call my Dell rep tomorrow.
I think I'll wait a bit until this shortage settles out (AFAIK it's not an issue with lcds or covers or color, it's just big old Intel that cannot supply enough Core 2 Duo) and will buy a new but cheaper system with a T5470 (lower power, higher battery life) and a GS8400 instead of a GM8600 T (for the same reason, prolong the battery life - I am not a gamer).
I might as well consider buying only 512 MB of Ram and upgrade it myself, saving a little more but, more importantly, because I don't want to give the extra money to Dell.

And I will ask a refund for Vista Business, by not accepting the Eula and taking Dell to my country's equivalent of the Small Claims Court.

I guess im a member of the club too. My 1420 was suppose to ship today but now its pushed back till the 15th. i guess its not that bad and ill probably get it before then because as of 2am this morning ive been in testing. Its so good to not here the word build when i call the autmated statis line

So I am cancelling my order for a Lenovo T61p becasue of delays. Ordered in early April, now shipping delayed until at least mid-june, with no end in site. Battery issues. Terrible business practices at Lenovo. It's not that I can't undertsand a delay in getting the batteries; it's the total lack of communication, and the terrible planning on their part. Horrid CS. Keeping very little inventory on hand has created this issue; now Lenovo is out 2000 bucks. What other industry requires one to wait 2-3 months for a system? You can get an HDTV in twenty minutes, configured exactly to your needs. You can get a cell phone, refrigerator, barbeque- hell you can get heart surgery faster than this. Stupid industry.

For the first delay, they said it was the battery. I spoke to them yesterday and they said that it should be shipped this week after testing and such. I am really going to love to hear what they have to say about this second delay.

 

My order was supposedly "shipped" on May 1st... but today after talking to one of the CSRs she told me that the expected delivery date is May 13th... 12 days to deliver the laptop seems a bit too much to me

 

That is because it is 5 to 9 business days

 

I would keep checking the 800 number on your status. You have to go from kitting, to build, to testing, then to boxing, then to shipping. In boxing now for mine, but that can take up to 3 days. (they remain in boxing until enough units are ready for a larger shipment).

 

So since this is a club, where're our Members Only jackets?

My laptop arrived today, got everything from the cleaning cloth, earphones, one remote control and leather case to keep my DVDs.

So far everything looks good, I haven´t checked the brand of my display because I just arrived home and have lots of work to do, but as soon as I do I will comment about it.

The only thing that worries me right now is that the hard drive makes a frequent "click" soft sound all the time... I am not sure if this is normal or if I should have it checked... the laptop works fine and other than that I am pretty happy with my purchase .

 

How do you check the brand of the screen?

 

Guess I'm the king of the delay club ... mine's delayed nearly 2 months.

The hard drive you ordered is in stock? I have the same one, and i'm waiting on it. Hopefully this means they are in, and it will ship soon.

Ordered 4/28, still in build, and ESD of 5/28.

 

I ordered almost same build except 1680x1050. It's that hard drive. I hope they get it soon, ex. NOT JUNE!

 

I chatted with a dell rep online yesterday, and 'Dexter' informed me that the 250G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive typically takes 10 days for them to receive. But then that may not mean much at all. Could take several weeks for all I know. Mine is taking a month to be made for just that reason. Is there anyone who ordered a 250G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive who can say just how long it takes those computers to ship?

Two months? Heh, I would probably have canceled by now.

 

I ordered my laptop on April 24th with a 250GB 7200RPM SATA and one week later I called in and was told the hard drive was delayed and would be in within a week from that point. Just this past Saturday (9 days after that call) I was informed the HD was in stock and no longer causing a delay. That would be 9 days after my initial call plus a week from my order, so 16 days. The system is in boxing stage now.

 

They should seriously just order a huge number and have them all arrive in one big shipment so that there won't be delays with all the orders coming in. It is depressing to see a June 19th delivery date.

 

Just an update, I received my M1530 this afternoon. It is well worth the wait. The LED screen is beautiful, unfortunately, I do not have a camera so there will be no pics available

 

Not that it's any news (I've seen a couple of other threads about it), but M1530's that are optioned with the 250G 7200rpm HD should not be delayed anymore as of today at ~3:00pm EST.

Status hasn't changed since I ordered it ... actually still says June 23rd online and over the hotline. I know it's going to come earlier (since I read about the HDs here) but my status didn't change so I called CS. Still no updated ESD ...

We all know we check our statuses at least 10x a day, don't we?

 

lol yes we do. The rep I was with said that the shipping estimate never changes and is set for each order, though it should come sooner. If you want to actually see the ESD change to an earlier time, you have to cancel and re-order.
