Unfortunately that's what I thought. I figured 5 to 7 days from date of purchase.

It really sucks too because this is an order for replacement (my other laptop died and my insurance is paying for a replacement, so I am without a laptop right now and I am going through serious withdrawl) lol...

I am leaving on a trip on the 26th and I REALLY hope I have it by then.

 

As long as your not on the m1330 bandwagon... i'd be hopeful that u'll get it by then. LOL

 

My 1520 just shipped! Thirteen days before the estimated date...

Waiting for my 1520 to get out of boxing and ship...went into boxing yesterday morning..my specs are very similar to yours.

 

I didn't get next day but every laptop I've purchased from Dell has come next day (I'm in Washington state) so I hope this one does too! I purchased it online 7/9 and it went into boxing on 7/11. I checked this morning it was still in boxing but just changed to shipped a couple of hours ago. Hopefully yours will arive next week too!

 

how about the 1420? is there a shipping backup for these comps?

 

well I ordered my 1420 on July 6 and got an estimated ship date of Aug 9. No idea why, but yeah it pisses me off. It's in the build stage. At least I got them to change it to free overnight, but this of course doesn't affect the build time.

 

It was my understanding that the WSXGA+ screens were holding up some of the 1520's, and then I see that your laptop has shipped and you ordered over a week after me, Argh! I'm really starting to hate Dell.

 

for me its a love-hate relationship at this point!! But geez, I can't believe your waiting time for the 1420 is over a month.. UGHHHH. I'm curious as to what mine is going to be when i place the order either tonight or tomorrow! I just hate using my mom's work laptop, it sucks! I hate the Latitude 110L!! I WANT MY 1420! lol

I just checked mr order status, and the estimated delivery date had changed from july 26....to july 17!!

It was like that for about 10 mins, and then went back to July 26....what's going on! I just want my laptop!!

 

This morning i called the 1-800-433-9014, and my 1420 has finally moved to the boxing stage. The est. ship date is still August 9th.

 

you will get it way before then if it is alrready in boxing

 

Thanks, good to know this. I was given August 9th, Est. ship date so maybe everyone who ordered in June and July with this date or close to it will get theirs early as well.

 

Most people do get their laptops well before their est. ship date. Its (almost) rare for them to get it on or after their ship date.

 

Ordered the M1330 July 10 at Dell store, but then realized they didn't give me the LED screen, so had to cancel and reorder 7.11 :-(
Ships August 14.

I already bought a new, teeny tiny laptop case for it, and it's sitting here now, with me tenderly glancing at it from time to time, like an expectant mother staring at her empty crib... I will love the little baby until it dies.

Quick question. When my laptop DOES move into shipped status. How long is it normally to reach canada? (Ottawa area) from anyone else in canada that has recieved an order?

Just wondering because I have been promised numerous times now after talking to a bunch of customer care, and sales reps, that I will have the laptop by this friday. But it is still "In production" so I am just curious how long it takes to ship.

(also does dell work on weekends? for manufacturing/shipping I mean, or is it essentially "paused" on weekends. And if they do work on weekends, do they update the online thingie on weekends?)

 

Mine has been in the "In production" stage since the day I ordered till today, and the estimated delivery date is 7/17, which is in 2 days. Unless it takes them 1 day to box and ship, it should already be in the boxing stage, shouldn't it? O

 

"in production" is a broad generalization. Try calling 800-433-9014 for the latest detailed info. about your order.

 

I have, it says it's currently in "Build" stage. They better be building that box....

My calendar doesn't go that far into the future.

Edit: I cancelled the original order and created a new one with slightly modified config. The ship date did not change. When calling the order status hotline, my new order immediately went to the "build" phase. Groovy.

 

Vostro 1400 Ordered on 7/13.
Scheduled ship date 8/6.

I check the website, new orders are showing 8/2 ship date.

I cancel, reorder.

Order status shows ship date of 8/8.

Guess I should have been more patient...or rather, I should have not canceled until I placed the replacement order.

Estimated delivery date is July 20 (tomorrow)
Its still in pre-production, so I am not hopefull.

Chatted with a CSR online and he said they were in a backorder situation, but didnt expand on what that meant.

Chatted with a different CSR a couple of days later and she said that the magnesium cases were causing the delay. She never answered direct questions as to why other people were receiving their 17" inspirons.

Dell (Canada) refuses to compensate me in any way for the delay, even though I can configure the same system now for $275 less. I believe that they are under huge pressure to deny all requests for compensation now because of the scale of the problem.

I also found out that ordering early doesnt get you a laptop any earlier because you get bumped by people who call and complain. They call it "Expediting" but really all it is is budding in line, penalizing the people who dont complain.

Anyways, some day I will get my 1720, untill then I will just continue refreshing my status page.

 

Just got mine, i'll try and post some pics tonight, i haven't seen it yet, got shipped to my mom's, (only 17) so i'll try and drive over there tonight to get it but its a hella drive...

 

A Dell rep told me that there is a corporate wide storage of glass for the screens. However, I think it is a bunch of bull and I asked for next day shipping for that delay and I got that. I also saw the glass thing in another post by a Dell employee. It may be true it may not be, either way, its a longer waiting time period for all of us.

I ordered a Vostro 1500, basic specs. The only thing I changed was I upgraded to XP Professional. I'll buy more RAM from crucial.com (they have Vostro listed there already) next semester.

 

I ordered my unit on July 8 and it was supposed to ship on 7/19. In the last hour (7/19) Dell emailed me that my 1720 would now not ship until 7/26 I am so bummed and to make matters worse...my old laptop monitor is acting up badly and now only works part of the time! I hope my unit will ship before the 26th....and I really hope they do not send me another email pushing the date out any further!

But, at the same time, there are many people worse off then me. Are the wireless n cards and 1280x800 glossy screens still on back order?

Ordered on June 29th

Had an estimated ship date of the 16th and that came and went.. Now it's the 23 but that is looking bleak as it's still in production as of right now.
Is it poosible that they still may ship it Monday or has Dell screwed me twice.

We at least I got free next day shipping

That shouldn't be the case because the majority here ordered T7300. Or so i believe

 

My ship date just got bumped back to 27 July, yesterday. It's been in the 'Build' stage since I ordered it on 08 July. I just checked and now it's in the 'Kitting' stage, whatever that means.


EDIT: Actually, I just looked into the specifics of the various phases, from the link posted earlier, and it appears that I actually took a step back, 'Kitting' is the step before 'Build', lol.

 

Interesting! My 1720 ship date is still holding at July 26th and I am still in the build mode. However, I just got an email from Dell Customer care in reply to my email to them on the concern of my new ship date.

Along with an upgrade to free Overnight Shipping now they want to give me a free Dell A926 crappy printer or a $75 dollar refund. I am taking the $75 bucks! Here is what Dell has to say about delivery dates:

All I see is "production" and then "Shipping".. where are you seeing "building" and "kitting" ? Is that european only? Canadian? What?

orginally ordered a 1520 on 6/28 and that date was the 7/18 but when they dropped the price on 6/8 i had to reorder and the date they gave me was 7/25 shipped but yesterday 7/21 it got picked up by fedex so hopefully it'll be here tommarow 7/23!!
