Hey guys, I'm not sure if you guys remember me but I was around here a lot before looking for a laptop and then decided on the 1400 vostro. I still do plan to buy something along that line but I decided to wait it out for a while since I already have a laptop but its just pretty old but should be able to hold me for a while.
There are pricedrops as you guys can see:
http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2007/09/07/intel_price_cuts/
w/ notebook processors and they will keep coming obviously.
The 8400gs on the 14" are really nice but not too great for future gaming.
The 9xxx series is coming out soon for nvidia and new notebook processors are coming out too Q1/2 next year.
I understand that if you wait, thing will always obviously get cheaper and stronger in this computer realm though I have the ability to wait since I'm doing so w/ notebook already in hand [just an old one]
I have some questions:
Do you guys think the vostro's will have a pricedrop anytime within the next 6 months or at least better processors and a better graphics card? I stress the graphics card since I do like that its dedicated, but I'm sure things will come up sooner or later.
I would just like to hear what you guys have to say.
Much thanks![]()

They will probably update the processors as long as the plataform is compatible with the design, though I am not sure how long that will take. Probably within the 6-month timeline, the graphic card would be a harder issue, but if they come up with more heat-efficient designs we will probably see more powerful video cards in smaller computers within the next months, but it depends on what approach the GPU manufacturers take.

I was hoping a better graphics card would be released for the shape of the 1400 or other laptops w/ similar builds.
do any of you other guys have any ideas? -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
In six months Intels Montevina platform will be out, which brings 29w 45nm processors and new Intel intergrated graphics. That is probably when the 9xxx graphics cards will come out.

I read that too a while ago, and my answer is no, you wont see a price drop because the new cpu line wont come into effect until next year and manifacturers still have plenty of the old ones left, intead you'll see a price increase because the introductory deals on the Vostros will end and you'll have to pay full price, but not for long anyway cos prices always drop

There should always be improvement in the future, I recall when all 14" notebooks had integrated video cards about two and a half years ago, with a few exceptions(Like the 12" iBook with the 9200).
Then one little gem popped up, a 14" with the 9600, everyone went ecstatic, nowhere had such 'power' been in such a small notebook. A few months went by, that little notebook went to a 9700, then it had a makeover with brushed aluminum lid and carbon fibre chassis, and a x600. It sold like hotcakes, there was no competitor at all. Half a year went by, it was very popular and in it's peaks, and it finally came out with another refresh, with the x1600. However, the industry saw this coming and a handful of other notebooks were released with similar graphics, the 7600. It had a pretty high price tag(1800) as it was high quality and powerful and one of a kind, but it was time for it to rest, and a successor(which is debatable since it wasn't as built well but was cheaper) appeared for it. Now we look at the present, 14" with 8600GTs can be found - so the future looks nice in the power department. Just have to see if quality is compromised. -
