    Very nice ... the black trim is much better that the cheap looking silver keyboard and bezel previously used.

    From the Dell UK press release:

    what is up with the ugly look... looks like a compaq built in '99.

    i kinda hate that in PC laptops you cant have looks and performance. It seems as though if you want performance, you get a PC laptop, you want looks you get a mac... :cool:

    It is bulky and looks like a vostro version of the 1525.

    I dont think it's too bad, though. I have an irrational fear of slot loading drives anyway.

    Lacks HDMI

    Hehe, me too. It's always nice to know that you can just press a button and get your CD out. Never seems quite right when a friends' Mac freezes and then they can't get the DVD out of the drive. The paper-clip notch even works on my current computer (Inspiron 1520). So there's no risk at all of the computer permanently dying and taking my favorite DVD/CD hostage.

    Surprised it still lacks HDMI, though. VGA should be enough, but as I was dismayed to learn, some TV's limit VGA input artificially - stupid DRM protection methods. And not just for movies - you can't even display the Windows desktop at the TV's native, VGA-supported resolution on these TV's! So while the best method is to avoid these TV's, it's still nice to have HDMI in case you're somewhere where they're your only option.

    Also noteworthy that they're shipping Vista x64 with it - that means 64-bit has reached the entry-level. It'll be interesting to see what Microsoft reports the 64-bit percentage of Windows Update visits to be the next time they report it. Too bad that's about the only measure of 64-bit usage there is.

    Still no gigabit Ethernet - small loss though, as without two computers that both have it it's not that useful. And the USB ports is down to 3 from 4 on the 1520, but that's also a small loss - I can't use all four even with two mice on hand!

    I use my 1520 as a desktop machine and I'm running two 4port hubs at full capacity on this thing all the time!

    gigabit isn't really useful yet as a lot of existing infrastructure is still 10/100.

    Now they are advertising it as a 15.6" screen? Still think 17" is the only way to go. You lose too much height on these other size screens.

    Looks pretty good for an entry level system. I do like the new 16 x 9 screens. Based on the specs I have seen this system is nearly identical to the 1525 in size. Its the same thickness front and rear, slightly wider (due to new screen dimensions) but also not as deep and slightly lighter weight.

    The specs I have indicate the following:

    1525 = 1" front, 1.5" rear x 14"wide x 10" deep and 6 lbs.

    New 15 = 1" front, 1.5" rear x 14.7" wide x 9.5" deep and 5.8 lbs.

    I picked up one of these for my dad a few days ago...pretty nice for the price. The look and feel is kinda macish plastic...which ain't too bad. The machine feels more solid then the Latitude D630 it replacing oddly enough.
