My XPS 1640 order page now has a link to an invoice but with no tracking number. Does the fact that I now have an invoice means that they have shipped the product?
-
On your Order Info page, it will show in the upper right corner if it has *shipped*, and may say *tracking information currently unavailable* or something similar.
Contact a Dell Rep and ask it has shipped or not. They can give you the most current info availi' on your status.

Finding out about the Dell Order Status phone number has made me a bit paranoid. lol.
I found out about it this past Monday 2/2/09 and the first time I called it my status was " Testing Stage "
I called again and it is still in " Testing Stage ". 4 days now in this stage and it could have been in it before monday.
It makes be think the lappy had some kind of failure with parts or something.
Compwiz0620 ordered the same system that I did and his shipped only 6 days after ordering!
I am sure there are many variables to these sort of things. My EST ship date is Feb 11. But this is the same EST ship date that Compwiz0620 had and he already has his lappy in hand.
Just wondering if anyone knows more about the " Testing Stage ". I havent called Dell yet because I know I will get someone that doesnt understand me very well and will tell me it is scheduled to ship on Feb 11. Information I already have.
Any ideas? -
-
I just called in today to get a more detailed order status on my laptop and was given some bad news. They said that my laptop is still in the build stage because they are waiting on ONE part: the DVD Burner. , and I was hoping to get it early next week.
-
But something happened just now on my Online Invoice page. I refreshed the page containing the invoice and suddenly the "Serial" and "Tracking Number" was filled out! The courier name is "SKR" which I think is Schenker, but when I checked for the tracking number on the Schenker site, it says there is no info available. I wonder if "SKR" is Schenker. My other Dell gear has been delivered by Schenker, so......
Is there any where on the Dell site where you can enter the tracking number?
Maybe I should go check on the UPS site. -
Ok, something is definitely happening with my long awaited XPS1640. My Order Page has suddenly filled with info. Schenker it is! Link to Schenker gives this:
The service is closed for maintenance (00:00 - 06:05). Please try again later.
Guess I'll have to wait 5 hours. Might as well go to bed. Sorry for all this rambling, but if you have tried waiting for a laptop, you know what I am going through right now -

I was able to chat with a XPS Dell rep online and was told that my situation with 4+ days in the " Testing Stage " is normal and "not unheard" of.
So I am guessing that maybe there is an issue with a part or something being swapped out.
I am just hopeful that it will ship very soon. The Rep seemed to think it will ship soon.
I have never been so impatient or constantly checked the status of an order before. lol. I just need this laptop quick for some mobile VM projects for school. My wife is inheriting my Inspiron 6000.
On a side note, my old laptop case will not work with the 1640 so I opted for some extra protection with the Pelican case. It will be here tomorrow - long before my laptop that is still sitting in a plant in Malaysia. lol

Usually, the Automated Dial and the Web page will differ. The Automated Dial is more *detailed*, as such.
And, also..like you did, the good thing to do is to call Dell, for exact details.

STATUS: " TESTING STAGE " for 5 days now!
Called Dell and they confirmed there isnt a parts delay so the system is built and has everything it needs but it has been in TESTING for at least 5 days now.
Who knows. -
That's bad...At least you got someone on the phone to confirm your tracking number
Cin -
I ordered one day after you.
-
Vishank,
That is odd that your laptop is just now going into testing today, 8 days after your order. As posted before, I didnt find out about the order status phone number until Monday 2/2/09 so my first call to that number said I was in Testing.
When I spoke to a Dell rep today ( in India ) he said he could see that there are no parts delay or parts needed to finish my system and that it should ship in about 3 or 4 days. That is all the information he cared to share though.
If the phone system is so accurate then I probably have a failed system since it has been 5 days in teseting and it is being tweaked, scratched, and opened back up several times. lol.
I certainly hope I dont have any issues with getting it and it having problems or something is wrong cosmetically if it has been tweaked over and over.
Probably a little paranoid about it but I would not be a happy camper if I had to ship it back and go through the whole process again. That would totally ruin the experience with shopping with Dell again. -

Well, I knew it. For some reason I had a bad feeling about my order from the very beginning when my cart got screwed up and didnt get the discount that was offered and when my account got charged twice for one order.
I called the order status number again tonight and my system is now back to the start in the " BUILD " stage!!! After being in the " Testing " stage for over 5 days.
Well, I guess it is a sign of a piece of @##!!**! that had to get started all over again from the beginning. I guess that is better than getting a piece that I would have to send back and get a refund and just forget about Dell.
The odd thing is that my EST ship date has not changed as of yet. It is scheduled to Ship on 2/11/09 but that is yet to be seen.
Sorry to vent but I have not had a good experience this time with Dell and with the incompetent people on the other end of the phone / email from the very beginning.
I really hope that Dell changes their direction with customer service.
** UPDATE **
After checking the order status phone number again, it is back even further to the " KITTING " stage... officially back the start.
Am I wrong or is it supposed to be moving forward, not backward. ?? -
-
Dude, that sucks! I have a feeling that recently, Dell's order status information has gone down the tube. e.g. Testing phase used to be only a couple of hours, boxing stage maximum of 3-4 days. I have a feeling that there was a part that you were waiting on as well (maybe the same dvd burner delay), but for some reason was shown the testing stage. This would make sense that it is now in the build stage and the kitting stage. Still, I would call up Dell and see what they say.
Oh ya, mine is still in the testing stage. I hope I do not have a repeat of what happened to you. -
I am over Dell. Dont get me wrong about this but moving all of their business overseas might be a good idea for their bottom line but it is terrible for customer service when trying to speak to someone that has terrible english and repeats something from the computer screen over and over again.
What really pisses me off is that Dell offers a " Your Tech Team " service for $150.00 a year and you get " North America based experts ". To me that is a slap in the face.
We at Dell are going to make it painful for anyone to call customer service or try to read an email sent from India but oh by the way, if you want guaranteed "North American " service, then we will charge you for that.
Outragous!
And on another note, I get an offer in my email moments ago for a $200.00 Dell.com promotional card if I order a Studio XPS 16 !!!!!!!!!!! During a 48 hour sale. So I guess I miss out on that one too even though they have my Studio XPS 16 being built on the other side of the planet right now.
I seriously doubt I will ever order from Dell again. This has been a painful ordering and customer service experience. -
-
I agree. If you dont offer the best customer service as a standard from your company then it is only a matter of time that your competition over takes you within your market.
Founders and CEO's get too greedy and lose touch with how important quality should be associated with your company instead of how to squeak out an additional 5% profit margin here and there.
If you dont have a happy customer you dont have solid referrals and that will lead to slower sales and more cutbacks until your company is below standard.
Not to worry. When that happens they will just get a bail-out from the taxpayers ( their customer base ) and everyone is happy, except the customer / taxpayer. -
cobrakr, so did you cancel your order?
-
wlfng2005, no I did not cancel my order as of yet. I am just upset with the whole process from the beginning.
When I was ordering my 1640, there was a $255.00 discount in my cart. I was like Yeah!. I checked the laptop page and there was an "Instant Savings" discount for the 1340 and 1640. So I ordered right then.
The problem started when upon check out it did not credit the discount. I logged out, back in and went to the main page. It was still there. I configured the system again and the discount was in my cart. I tried to check out and it did not give it to me.
Long story but that was the start of my experience. The instant savings discount vanished from the main page about an hour after I started. I contacted customer support about the discount thing and they said they would not honor the $255.00 but would discount the order $100.00 but they would have to call me and place the order over the phone. I was over it by then and didnt want to hassle with broken english and getting my order screwed up.
Then they charged me twice for my one order once I placed it online. That finally got resolved.
Now I get an email about getting $200.00 Dell.com promotional card if I order a Studio XPS 16. Go figure. I doubt I would talk them in to giving me the discount now that my order has already been placed.
It's just been a hassle so far. I just hope this system is worth it. I have heard a lot about the heat issue. Computer components dont last very long operating in high temperatures. We will see. -
I think sales is based in the US so not understanding what they are saying wouldn't be an issue. I have always placed my orders online but after having to return my first 1640 I thought I would try and see if I could get the same deal. Sales managed to save me $40 more than my original $200 gift card order.
I got the email offer, too. Would've been nice if they had waited until I got the one I ordered since I plan on buying another if this one works. -
Call them and discuss the $200 promo card...If not you can always complete the Unresolved Issues form online and submit, and see what happens that way.
Unfortunately, any physical changes to your order after it's placed, cause your order to be cancelled, a new order entered and you start from scratch.
I learned this with my 1530... I wanted to add or change and they would've had to cancel and start with a fresh order. What happened then, was that they had a part on backorder, so they cancelled my order and *refreshed* that's the term they use. Which was good and bad....I was able to add what I wanted, but had to wait longer.
It's horrible to have to fight for your gift card promo, I had to do that also.

STATUS: Went into testing this afternoon
P8400

8X DVD+/-RW -
First, I called dell rep in EPP department to order my 1640...and I was able to get the price of $1947(tax included) down to $1600(after tax)...so I was like "yeah!, I saved 347 bucks..." 3 days after the day I placed the order, I called the 1800 number to check my order status and it is in testing stage...and after that I continue to call in to check the status and it always said "testing stage"...I was a little nervous so I called a dell rep and asked what was going on with my order...she said "your order is fine, and it is in the final stage so it should ship out in the next 3-5 days"...I waited, and waited and after 6 days, the status was still "testing stage" I called in again. This time she said she had no idea what the problem is so she asked me to wait. While waiting, I called in 1800 status check again, and this time it said "build stage"....I was outraged because my system was in testing for so long and now it starts all over again. About 3 hours later, I called in again, and this time it was in "Kitting stage"...what the heck? is dell's status system going backward or what?
So I called my rep again and she didnt pick up the phone....I knew something was wrong....so I wrote her an email...and she replied while offered no help at all except asking me to wait.
2 hours after the kitting, I called in...yes again, and the status changed to "testing" and it stayed there for about a day already....I think its going to be just like the last time. If it is, then I guess I'll cancel it and take my money elsewhere...lame -
I know what you mean. Mine is going through the same thing. I just happened to check the order status phone number last night ( 1am Eastern ) when it wasnt in testing stage any longer, it had moved to build stage. I called about an hour later and it was in kitting stage. I checked an hour later because I thought all of this was odd and maybe a problem with their system and it was in build stage. I checked this morning and it was in testing stage again. It has been back in this stage for close to 15 hours.
My guess is they were waiting on parts? Something to add to the system after initial testing? Not sure.
I hope it doesnt get cancelled and start this stuff all over again. I am in college and I need this particular system.
I am hopeful to hear "boxing" very soon. Maybe it will get the ride over on the 747 tomorrow night... ( monday for them ) ???
If so, they may exceed their initial EST ship date. What is funny is that a lot of people on here have reported their systems shipping about 6 days or so after their order.
I would bet this is a parts issue with them being back ordered. If that is the case, the rep I talked to told me a bold face lie when he said that all of the parts are there and they are not waiting on anything. He told me he confirmed the parts status. -
I remember that I asked my rep once and she told me that the processor (P8600) was backordered. But I did not get it, how can a system be in testing stage if a part of it is in back order? if one wants to test a system out, the system should be completely assembled right? ...umm I dont know about this boxing stage, but I hope to get the system soon because I am also a college student. What pisses me off the most is that many people who order wayyyy after me got their systems shipped wayyy before me (days ago)....I want the laptop and I want it now!
