I am very close to getting a E1405, I like everything except the 1.5" thickness. Does anyone know how long the E1405 has been around, and when the new resdesign one is coming? I love C2D and everything else, I just want them to make it thinner and maybe even lighter.

    Thanks!

The latitude d620 is a thinner dell in the 14.1 inch form factor. Inspiron is the entertainment line so thickness and weight are not important factors compared to price, etc.

i'm typing this message on my 640m right now (canadian version of the e1405). Even with a 9 cell battery, the weight is absolutely fine. I carry it around with several textbooks without any problem.

The e1405 and 640m has been around since may 2006.

E1405/640m came out in Q2 2006, but it uses the same design from earlier 630m, which came out in Q3 2005 or maybe even earlier. Therefore successor to 640m doesnt necessarily mean a new design.

i think that what would make the 640m/e1405 perfect is if there was an option for a dedicated GPU (ati or nvidia), and the other stuff that the 6400/e1505 has, so that it would basically be a 6400, but in 14" form...i would buy that, wouldnt you?

I do wish the E1405 had an option for built-in. At least the X1300 -- the X1400 would be even better.

i do think dell's overdue for a refresh. The e1505,e1405,e1705 look is getting boring.
