Now that the review of this machine is out, my brother is willing to order a new 17" and he's kinda stuck between the Inspiron 1720 and Studio 17 and according to Jerry's review, the performances between the two ain't far off.

So before i could possibly advice him..... I can see the main differences is its GPU... please advice thanks.

A few things I found yesterday:

    Pro Studio 17:
    - Studio 17 does have HDMI
    - WXGA+ WLED screen (1440x900) is possible
    - More/new color options

    Pro Inspiron 1720:
    - You can select a blu-ray burner
    - Intel wireless option (S17 only offers Dell wireless cards, Intel seems to be better)

FYI According to Dell's site the Studio also comes with gigabit ethernet, which the Inspiron does not have.

Now for the performance part.... Not very far off If I must make an obserseration. HD 3650 = 8600M GT.... But it's still weird as the 3dmark score doesn't seem very far from 8600M GT and what I expected it to be, due to the fact I got myself a score of 3303 with the same testing configurations with T9300 and all that.

But still, design wise, looks nice. Worth buying for those willing to get their hands on a first time 17" Dell machine. :D However Inspiron 1720 owners shouldn't upgrade to this minor upgrade. :)

in short the differences are superficial, the Studio is just uglier
