I purshased the Dell Inspiron 640m with the Core Solo processor for $799 CDN. After weeks of researching and finding out which model is best I went for it on the 12th. Its been a week now and seeing the "In transit in U.S." on the purolator website is driving me nuts haha. Its been like that since Wednesday morning. After having this impatient attitude towards wanting to finally crack open and playing around with the notebook, I realized how all the other people feel between the time they purshase the notebook and the long grueling wait till it arrives at the door step haha. The estimated arrivel date when I purshased it was the 21st, but now its the 22nd. I thought it would arrive earlier (friday), but I guess I was wrong. Oh well.
Just in case anyone wants to know, here are the specs
I640M,CORE SOLO T1350(1.86GHZ)
512MB SHARED DC DDR2 SDRAM 533MHZ,2 DIMM
8X DVD+/-RW DRIVE
14.1 INCH TRUELIFE,WXGA+
80GB HARD DRIVE (5400RPM)
53 WHR,6-CELL,LION,
Win XP Home back up CD
Dell Nylon Backpack
Yup, thats my storyI know the specs must be crap for the price, but this is Canada haha and I dont need a Duo Core
Thank you for all the people who helped me with reviews and comments on this notebook.'
P.S.: I would be more than happy to put some pictures and reviews if people would like.

congratulations on your purchase! i'm sure you'll love it; even after 5 months - i'm still excited every time i use my 1505
that is compared to my AMD desktop.
it's sort of like christmas - preparing/waiting is kinda more exciting than actually getting the presentdon't worry - price isn't that bad.
-
Haha man, I went through that until last week on Tuesday when my Inspiron 6400 arrived.
I was so pissed that day because I waited since my tracking status said "On truck for Delivery" and nothing showed up even though it was like 6PM so I called Purolator and the lady was nice and she said they'll call the driver and tell him to come and drop it off and he came 5 minutes later. He was sorta pissed though, heh.

I'm going through the waiting game too...waiting for my M1710 to arrive. Something happened on UPS' end because I was supposed to get it on Friday, but then it seemed to get "stuck" for a day in Salt Lake City and delivery got rescheduled for Monday.
It's been a long weekend, but waiting for new technology to arrive is really exciting! -
congratulations on the buy. the price in canadian isnt bad. You will love it, but in my opinion you will want an extra 512 mb of ram, I ran the notebook with just the 512 to see how it would run and hated it. I put the other stick back into the e1405 and it ran like a well oiled machine. also get rid of most of the crap that runs in the background. i had 60+ processes running when i first got my notebook and tweaked it using norton systemworks and got it down to just 27 processes and its way faster. Check my screen shot

well to be honest I would have spent the extra 100 bucks for the core duo and extra 512 mb ram. I did, I ordered mine on aug 24th and still waiting for it, took the bastards a week just to ship it but im so excited. I could care less about ppl trying to say its to thick or to heavy, for crying out loud, im spending half the price anyone else would LOL now whose laughing right? Good choice on ur notebook though. Id liek to know how it turns out when you get yours, i will post about mine when i get mine.
-
Well I received mine on the 19th. I really like it. Solid notebook except for one thing
I had to send it in for a system exchange. The keyboard was defective. Other than that, the machine is flawless for my needs. I get jealous of people who have the core duo but then I realize that people strongly agree that its not necessary for my needs so lol. The exchange is supposed to come on the 6th. The estimated arrival date for Canada is preety accurate. It was 1 day late last time and this time it seems to be on time if all goes well. Im sure you'll love the notebook. Its portable and low heat, and it meets all my needs for computing..including wireless

hey I think you did good regardless, I just happened accross mine when it was on sale at the right time. Us canadians definatley will get good use out of the system. If I were you I would lay a complaint about having to wait extra time for a working notebook to dell and get a supervisor to refund ya a couple bucks or give ya somethign for free
I know I would in your shoes. I think they owe ya something, their supposed to quality test em before they ship em out.
-
im waiting for my 6400 too. it was supposed to come on sept 11 but now when i check my order status it says its estimated ****p date is sept 18
. so right now it says its being built so im just gonna have to wait like everyone else
-
Check your account if you have one on the dell website. I dont think they have updated the order status since Friday. Mine shipped on Friday according to My Account but on the order status its still in "In Production"
-
its still "in production" but maybe its still not updated cause its the long weekend, ill check again tomorrow
-
the shipping estimates were way off for me, they said I was not supposed to see it until August 23rd but I got mine on the 8th!!! It took one week from the day i put my order in to the day I recieved it!
-
so it took only one week for u to get yours??? oh my god u lucky bum!!!
-
yeah the guy I work with that got the 710m got his in a week and a day. I think they are just low on the systems as they have been having a good sale and everyone is purchasing for back to school. I am really hoping mine arrives tomorrow. They shipped it on the 31st oh and all their systems are shipped from texas. Another reason us canadians are having to wait.
-
The shipping times are different from people that live in Canada and those that live in the U.S. Mostly because of the boarder crossing time wait.
-
EDIT: Sorry for the double post -
i ordered about two days ago and now mine is in production....how long does it stay in production? i cant wait to watch a DVD on it! 15.4 inches is like my normal computer screen! except the laptop will be widescreen so it will look better
-
In production takes about 4 days and shippoing takes about 3-5 days but I think that depends on where you are located
-
mine got shipped on the 2nd of september and now its "in trasit in the us"
-
The long and painful wait
