Check out these huge score boosts!

Also these drivers lowered my temps greatly for some reason, now i idle under 50* and go at 65* max load, insane!

So you don't get errors on shutting down with powermizer?

So now to choose between the 156 and the 167... decisions decisions...

I'm running vista 32 on an Asus G1S using these drivers. 3dmark score only rose 30 marks from the 163.44s, but these drivers are also overclockable. The old overclockable drivers gave me a score of 3600-3700 at stock and 4100 when OC'd. Now I am getting 4434 OC'd at a modest OC of 550/780. Thumbs up to these drivers! (3dmark scores at 1280x1024)

Whenever I try the http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/ drivers, the first thing I check is that standby/hibernation continues to work properly.

Inevitably, the video benchmarks improve over the stock ones, but ultimately stability is the most important.

Every once in a while, you get both, improved performance and reasonable stability :)

Is it possible that the new drivers calibrate the temperature reading differently?

Nice! I got another 50 points on 3DMark06 over the 163.44 drivers.

    EDIT:

And they're overclockable. I can easilly hit 35xx with moderate OCing.

hmm, mem clock at 530....you running any other tweaks or something

coz most people get only 475 mem clock before crashing in games occur, like in UT3 beta, if they set the clock to 500 mem, when selecting number of bots the game crashes

I am having trouble installing any nvidia driver on my 1730, it says "cannot find any compatible hardware for this driver" or something like that.

Does anyone know what I should do?

    Nice to know.

I am now downloading a driver from Dell under the name R167359.exe. Looks a lot like version 167.359 to me? I'll give this a go and let you know how it pans out.

    All fixed, thank god.

The driver version from Dell is 156.61. I think I'll only go to the Dell website from now...

Those of you having trouble with new drivers - note that new beta and WHQL nVidia drivers DO generally work with any Dell notebook with discrete video (including all XPS series machines - m1330, 1730 etc), but they are not warranted by nVidia to work on a particular device - therefore, the original .inf file that tells the installer which machines to accept deliberately EXCLUDES almost all mobile-series chipsets.

Laptopvideo2go.com is a resource that typically provides a "modded .inf" file that ADDS the mobile chipsets back, and is used to overwrite the original nvidia-provided .inf file, allowing setup to run properly. Bear in mind that while there are usually definite improvements, especially for those running games, no non-Dell provided driver is GUARANTEED to work or be stable.

Therefore, it's totally your choice which way to go - however, if you do decide to play with the new drivers, which in many cases are a huge improvement over the Dell version, you are on your own with them. (Well, not really on your own, since there are many other community members to give you a hand :D)

    Hope this helps your understanding.

Wow, these work great. I got a 80 point increase just by switching from 163.71. And they allow overclocking too. With a little bit of overclocking mem+ 75 mhz, core +24 mhz, I have a 500 point increase from where I was before.

Nice score! What resolution did those tests run at? I believe 1280x1024 is the standard.

I went from stock drivers to 169.01 on the 1420 (2ghz/8400m gs). These are my results in 3dmark06:
    Stock 400/500 (default) - 1244
    Stock 624/780 - 1817

    169.01 400/500 (default) - 1488
    169.01 624/780 - 2054
