Just got Latitude D620 a few days ago, the new Latitude D620 really disappoints me.
The LCD has very limited vertical view angle. Tapping on the touchpad is lagging compare to all laptop I used, even sensitivity change to high.
Also Bottom center is very hot after a while.
May be mine is defective?
-
Could you please comment on the screen and sound quality.
How bright is the screen considering it's a matte. -
Your laptop isnt defective....thats just the way the D620 is. It gets worse. Try playing some music.
-
No it is not defective. After reviewing you comments each point is true with the exception of the touchpad sensitivity. I feel the touchpad has just the right amount for me. I feel the pointing stick to be hard to control.

How ironic!!
I was just on the phone with Dell tech support and you've named 2 of my four complaints about the computer. They're shipping me a new one next week to see if it corrects all these problems.
#1. Mine makes a very annoying noise or high pitch whine but only when on battery power. When I plug it in, the D620 is almost completely silent (except for normal hard drive sounds...)
#2. The viewing angles on the screen are terrible. The brightness is also very weak when viewed in a brightly lit room.
#3. The touchpad is very inconsistent, especially the tapping. Sometimes I'll tap and it won't recognize it until the third or fourth try.
#4. My intel wireless card sometimes fails to reconnect to the network on startup and I have to disconnect and reconnect just to get it working.
With the help of the very nice tech support person, I downloaded and installed an updated chipset driver, updated bios and updated touchpad driver. Sadly, none of these updates seemed to make any discernable difference. I'll be getting a new one next week and I'll report back on whether or not there's any improvement.
On a side note: I was very impressed with the tech support, the phone was answered very quickly and the exchange process for getting a new one was simple and efficient. Kudos to dell support!!! -

Actually I ordered 2 units, one is going back to Dell due to bad assemble, the front panel has abnormal gap.
The D620s LCD is dim IMO. The narrow vertical view angle make the brightness and color change uneven on the screen which really hart my eyes.
I will call Dell next week, see what they can do. -
Folks, I would get the e1505. Just look at the number of folks getting one on this forum and not too many compaints at that!

My D620 is coming Today and I will report back soon. I will check for heat, LCD vertical view angle, and touchpad sensitiveness.
During these 2 month, I ordered XPS M140, e1505, and now D620. So far, M140 and e1505 got an LCD "shimmer" problem because of Truelife. I had already returned those two notebooks. I hope everything is OK with D620 -
1/ Bottom center of the laptop is very worm after a while.
2/ The narrow LCD vertical view angle is very annoying.
3/ LCD "shimmer" surface. Not as good as HP and Fujitsu LCD.
The touchpad seems to work fine after I make some adjustment. The pointing stick is little too sensitive. On board mono speaker is better than average. -
I ordered a d620 for a client and he hates it for all the reasons listed above. -
I'm trying to order one as my main system for work. I'm not sure if it will be approved, but if it goes through I'll post my comments about it. I'm ordering it with the docking station and a 20" flat panel, so I'm not sure the viewing angle of the laptop will be much of an issue for me. I guess I'm not overly picky about my hardware for work...anything beats the POS Compaq Armada that I had when I first started in IT.

Called Dell yesterday, I have to say Dells technical support is wonderful.
I just told the lady the problems and what did to try to solve the problem; she decided to give me replacement right away. Seems like these are common problem for D620. The replacement is scheduled next week and I will report the update.
The LCD is terrible for a business class laptop. Hopefully, Dell would change the LCD panel which used in D620. -

Can someone please explain to me why these manufacturers can't at least offer a special LCD as a more expensive upgrade? Why is it Apple is the only manufacturer that can put out top-notch LCDs on laptops and still have them be both lightweight and a decent battery life. It boggles the mind.
I was all set to buy the D620. I am not liking this. -
It seem many Inspiron e1705, e1505, 710m, XPS M1710 and Latitude D820 have a good LCD. Can anyone confirm this?

I've had the D620 for over a week now, and I'm very satisfied. Maybe I'm not as picky as others. I adjusted the touchpad and it works great! I agree that the LCD viewing angle is not the best, but all you need to do is move the LCD until it looks good. I got the 4-cell battery, so my laptop is very lightweight, but it usually lasts 1.5 hours if I leave it unplugged (which is not a big deal since I'm around outlets most of the time). It does get quite warm at the bottom, but not as much as other laptops I've encountered.
I got the Tucano 14.1 widescreen notebook sleeve and it works great! -

The D620's WXGA+ is this AUO panel - 220nit brightness, Horizontal/Vertical viewing angles of only 90/65.
The MacBook Pro is using a panel from the same company but it has much better specs - 300nit brightness, Horizontal/Vertical viewing angles of 140/120.
So i'm not sure if Dell can really do anything about it, they just source from different LCD manufacturers. I'm not sure if there's any 14" widescreen that has a particularly spectacular screen. Sony doesn't at least, here's a NBR review of the Sony FJ and it seems the vertical viewing angles are not that good either. Apple doesn't have a 14" widescreen at all. Used an HP dv1000 with Brightview screen recently, viewing angles weren't good with that either. Not sure about Fujitsu or Toshiba, they typically have decent screens.
The new Latitude D620 disappoints me
