The new Studio 1747 with Core i7 and N wireless option

Hi,

In my home country if you choose a Core I7 processor for the Studio 1747 the only option that you get for wireless/wifi is an dell b/g card

(the same applies i think if you would go for the Studio XPS 16")

This is for me not really acceptable, we are almost in the year 2010 and i find it weird that there are still b/g cards sold.... I definitely dont want only b/g but i do want n (most of us around me now have 50+ Internet connections and i hope the have next year 60/6 or even higher)

Now my question is i could just order the Studio 1747 with the "Dell Wireless 1397 Mini Card (802.11 b/g)" and then besides it order an extra Dell 1520 or Intel 5100 mini card and then i replace it myself.

I guess hardware wise that shouldnt be to much of a problem? Also in the us shop i can mostly choose between 1397, 1520 and or 5100 anyway on those models. But those are just not an option on Core I7 once over here. They are on the same platform (1747) options when i choose Core 2 Duo configurations... Which makes it in my eyes even more strange.. so the latest tech and fastest tech of Intel processor wise but then you suddenly have a slow network connection?

I had the same issue with the Studio XPS 16. I asked my Dell contact about it and they could not combine Core i7 with an n-wireless card or even Core i7 and Windows 7 (only Vista). I also found it very strange because on the US website this is no problem.

 

I also have no idea what that is with dell, i cant really think what could be the problem. First i cant believe that the intel n cards wont work with the core i7 and the intel chipsets.. that would be really strange from intels stand point

Also a coworker came up with that the drivers where not translated yet to our language (dutch in my case) but that doesnt same plausible because all those cards and therefore drivers do work fine for the Core 2 Duo setups.

The vista problem is fixed, currently i can say Win7 with the Studio 1747 with a Core i7 on there site.

 

In the US, a couple of weeks ago I had the same problem - only Wireless-G available. Then a couple of days later, an additional Dell Wireless N option showed up and I ordered the laptop.

Since a Intel 5300 N card + a 45nm Montevienia Core 2 Duo CPU is considered the top tier brand Centrino 2.

I would expect an Intel 5300 N card + a 45nm Core i7 to be Centrino 3 or have no fancy name but save even more energy.
