If I put the SIM card from my old mobile phone in the back, what will happen? The SIM card is from the Australian telephone company Telstra. Will I be able to access the data on the card? Will I somehow be able to make cellphone calls? If not, is there a way I can do that?
Thanks.

the SIM card is designed for integrated mobile broadband. Even if you have the SIM card slot in your laptop, you also need to have ordered mobile broadband with your system in order for it to have the cellular radio inside.

Righto, so I couldn't even use it to access the data on the card then?

Not too sure about that....hmmm

No, you cannot use the slot for accessing sim card data without the 3G mini PCI express card installed inside your laptop.
Just get Dell 5530 (ericsson) card, Sierra Wireless card (MC8775, MC8781, etc), or Novatel Wireless card from ebay and install it by your self, including the driver/software. It shouldn't be so hard, especially that Dell has given the service manual for this kind of purpose. -
Will only work if the SIM card is attached to an active account on the cell network.
There is a SIM card slot in the back of my battery bay
