Iceman0124 More news from nowhere
Awesome, now if we just had decent driver support and resolved compatibilty issues I'd really start getting excited, its going to be awhile befor I put vista on my M1210, I'm using my desktop as a guinea pig, its primarily a playtime machine, the M1210 is my main workhorse, and it wont be Vista ready till Vista is ready, which its not, its pretty close, and fine for non critical machines, I'm still getting frequent odd behavoir, random crashing, gaming performance is still way off, creative still doesnt have ANY official drivers, all buggy betas even for the XFI line, settings switching to defaults for no reason, memory dumps, and once the other day it took a memory dump, I restarted, and it came up saying I had an invalid activation, I booted in safe mode, deleted the memory dump files, and the problem went away, that event has completely solifified my stance on waiting to install on important/only machines at this time.

well then!
I was just letting everyone know that you can expect your copy soon! -

Sorry , I'm not trying to rain on your parade, just stating my opinion in my way overtired/ overmedicated state, it can lead to unintentional rants at times.
-
to the op are you located in the us?
and i won't be installing vista for quite a while either -
Vista is already on my computer.
it costs only $69 from academicsuperstore.com with a student ID.
It's not that bad. I have no driver issues with my m1210.
Problems:
Cygwin is semi-broken.
For some reason, I cannot map network drives ...
(These are the only problems i've found so far) -

I never knew about this until a few days ago when my friend told me this. My campus offers Windows Vista Business for free though ECS (Department for Engineering and Computer Science). I haven't updated yet but there's that option, only thing I don't get is the fancy Vista sticker for under my laptop. For anyone who's in college/university and don't have the benefit of the Vista upgrade, go ask around, might be worthwhile.

Hey, one last questions, have they updated you from "pending" on the dell vista upgrade site? I was charged for the upgrade on fri, but am still on pending, and havent received and e-mail. Thanks (sry for all the questions, trying to narrow it down to be sure someones here to receive it)

-
Dammit, my free upgrade from HP doesnt ship for months
The moduslink website told me it would ship in April but checking the status lately, it tells me to check back in a couple of weeks, so its most likely going to take longer. -
-
. im hoping there will be intructions on the forums on how to do a clean install.
-
Easy.
Instead of doing the automatic upgrade do the ADVANCED, erase all your paritions and bam.. there you go. -
I just got an e-mail confirmation saying that mine has been shipped and I signed up in November so keep you eyes out for that e-mail guys.
-
I also got my email today. I also signed up in November.
The freaky thing is that among all of this I got a call today from unresolved issues saying that they were going to replace my laptop. The hunch is that the new laptop will have vista pre-loaded anyways but I asked to have XP preloaded instead. I also said though that if they couldn't do it then I could always just erase the drive and install XP on it myself. I already have a copy of their XP disc. They also said I could just swap the drives with each other. Put the new one in the return laptop and put the old one in the new laptop. -
im guessing they go by when people signed up....im in december so im hoping around in the middle of this week ill get the email.
-
i signed up this month who knows how long it could take for mine
-
yeah I am glad I didn't buy this in stores. nothing too different

-

Just got my email tonight. Signed up in early to mid December
-
I am glad to see you guys are gettings emails. -
For those that are wondering the kit will contain these items.
NOTE: Items are not in a case -- they are in a cd sleeve. The actual upgrade disc will be named differently if you are upgrading from Pro or Home editions of XP. I am upgrading from MCE.....
A blue "Dell Windows Vista Upgrade Assistant DVD" that contains the upgrade assistant, updated drivers, and updated applications.
An olive "Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 to Windows Vista Home Premium Express Upgrade"
A Windows Vista Express Upgrade Quick Card
An Express Upgrade to Windows Vista booklet
A new Certificate Of Authenticity (COA) to be affixed to your laptop.
Here is the disappointment. It is the 32-bit version. The good thing is that it is more compatible with hardware. The bad thing is that it won't take full advantage of the processor in my laptop. Maybe I can request a 64-bit dvd.
Oh and I am going to say that this disc is about as original as you can get.
I just did a file comparison (not content -- just filesize and timestamp wise) and the only obviously changed file is \Sources\Boot.WIM and it is only about 3.5MB larger than the original one. The odd thing is that since they rebuilt the disc the overall disc size went way up. It went up about 467MB despite having identical directory structure and identical filesizes for all but one file. The only thing that comes to mind is the way the disc is built. All the directories and modified files have a datestamp of 1/4/2007 rather than 11/2/2006.
EDIT: Looks like the upgrade assistant dvd contains a utility to repair the mbr for those that use Media Direct 2.0. Guess they got that fixed. -
I signed up in January and I just got my email yesterday.
For me, the real questions is, "Who did the upgrade and how did it go?" -
I did. very very painless
-
Just got mine - think I signed up in late December or early January. Of course now it sits on the shelf until at least SP1.
