ok...so I have seen some small problems with the Vostro being posted here. I think it might be useful to make a checklist for the known defects in the Vostro...
1) graininess problem on LCD display (with the WGA+)?
2) laptop LCD display light bleed
3) "wobbly" battery
4) build quality
5) loose lid
6) bloatware...if it's included
7) keyboard check
8) check keyboard/LCD manufacture
9) DVD drive noise
10)check headphones jack for extra noise
11) check for skipping audio (use internet with wifi and open up media player)
Am I missing anything else? My Vostro will be arriving in a day or so and I just want to make sure everything is fine.
Thanks,
-

yep my battery is wobbly , my lid has a lot of play, i had bloatware installed???, and imo the build quality is cheap.. other than that i love it lol... just wish they put more time into it
-
thanks for the checklist
also, I think someone said that they're keyboard buttons weren't working and that the trackpad was uneven. Also check whether the DVD drive is too noisy.
Very convenient since my vostro is coming tomorrow. -
please post your findings.. im trying to see if its worth sending this one back or if they are all pretty much this way
-
Thanks for the extra stuff KillaHaZe. I'll add it to the list.
My laptop (hopefully) will come tomorrow. I'll post my findings then. I had my laptop "expediated"...I hope that didn't affect the build quality. -
Check the headphones jack !
-
check if you have skipping audio. my audio skips, crackles, pops when browsing the internet with wifi and listening to music on say, winamp or WMP. some kind of hardware conflict
-
ok I'll add those. Thanks.
-
ok...the DHL guy just arrived. On first impression, I think my Vostro looks great except...
1) I do have that loose lid
2)I seem to have some problems with the LCD. The bottom part of the LCD screen seems to have a light bleed. I can see it even in the daylight. EDIT: also, I THINK i have some grainess problem.
I took some pictures of the light bleed, made a video of the loose lid...I'll post my pictures and video later when I finish with this check.
I think I might be returning this laptop...the light bleed is making me crazy. -
they were sending me a replacement i can wait and see i guess but it seems they all have the leakage issues.. this sucks
-
dont forget about the os disc.
-
os disc? Do you mean if it's included with your Vostro?
Yeah, I think most of the laptop monitors have backlight leakage...Mine is not that bad compaired to others. The weird thing is that my backlight leakage is worse in the daylight. When I am using the laptop in a dark room, the backlight leakage is a little bit better. -
yea my vostro has a bit of leakage but I can deal with it. Also my laptop has the loose batter and the flimsy latch but other than that I like it.
-
just got my replacement 1500 and it has the headphone noise also. But on the bright side with this one I got a full manuals and paperwork! and 4 cds, drivers, OS, Works, and Apps. The bleed is not bad at all, the S-video works fine, the card reader is fine, the screen is fine, everything is fine but the dang interference noise in the head phone jack.
-
can you post pics of the bleed?? thanks a ton if so..
-
what is lcd leakage? I don't see any problem with my LCD
-
1) graininess problem on LCD display (with the WGA+)? don't see any
2) laptop LCD display light bleed; lots esp. near at the bottom
3) "wobbly" battery; yess
4) build quality; its ok i guess
5) loose lid; nope
6) bloatware...if it's included; nope, don't think so
7) keyboard check; seems ok
8) check keyboard/LCD manufacture; don't know how to check
9) DVD drive noise; its pretty quiet but makes a weird noise when i start the laptop up with a cd in there
10)check headphones jack for extra noise; no extra noise but the speakers aren't great. makes a weird noise sometimes when i'm watching a movie
11) check for skipping audio (use internet with wifi and open up media player; don't notice any has a weird echoing noise sometimes during a movies

A LCD light leakage is something like this...
In the sunlight (which makes it worse): http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/877/pict3588px7.jpg
and in the complete dark: http://img132.imageshack.us/img132/1518/pict3593tp8.jpg
(those pictures is the light leakage on my vostro) Its just some brighter spots on the LCD screen...(in my case, the bottom of the screen)
1) yep, I have a graininess problem on LCD display
2) I have a light bleedat the bottom of my LCD display
3) "wobbly" battery-ummm nope...but I have that 6celled battery
4) build quality-ok? no problems...so far
5) loose lid-yes...I'll post video later
6) bloatware...might be some...(I have the Norton AntiVirus)
7) keyboard check-ok..but spacing is a bit weird to me.
8) check keyboard/LCD manufacture-LG philips
9) DVD drive noise-I do hear a faint screeching noise in a really quite room...but not that noticeable..(not sure if it's DVD drive though...more like fan/CPU?)
10)check headphones jack for extra noise-yep...static when using speakers/headphones
11) check for skipping audio (use internet with wifi and open up media player)-none so far -
Just got my Vostro 1500, has a bit of light bleed in the center like previously shown....not too much of a nuisance. Headphone jack has the slight buzzing sound... but man the DVD drive is noisy... i dont think it's working correctly either...it's not that fast.
Things to check when Vostro arrives...
