What Do You Thnk..
I am Not going to be gaming...Only few minutes of halo 2
Just student work....
Internet...
Lil bit of everything...will this handle it..
-
-
I'm thinking this post has to be a joke right. Can this handle a little bit of everything? Looks like it can handle a little bit of A LOT of things. So yes
-
lol...that is a very solid setup and can handle pretty much anything except for some rly high-end gaming and video stuff
-
Really no problems with student work/Internet.
-
OK, thanks.....cause I am frightened that Vista will make it slower...
-
Hey also....do you guys or girls think that dell is a bad and unreliable company...???
Many friends tell me dell is crap ect., do you think this is true.. -

Don't listen to your friends. I bet they can't back up their statements! That setup is good. It can do anything you throw at it although I think the GPU is overkill for someone who doesn't game. -
-
Get 1GB of RAM and upgrade it yourself, you can save a lot that way. And make sure you use one of the Dell coupons.
-
-
If you don't plan on gaming you could drop down to a cheaper graphics card, for sure.
-
Also DELL usually offers the BEST bang for the buck in terms of hardware.
-So its up to you what you are looking for in a computer. Do you want a computer that looks stylish but wont be as fast and will cost you more $ ? in that case you can buy an apple or a sony...
- If you dont mind the looks so much and are looking to get the fastest computer for your budget on the market that will handle everything you throw at it... go with DELL.
Why dont you ask WHY your friends think dell sucks? chances are they did no research and dont know anything, so dont take information from uninformed sources... -
I do plan on playing at least a little bit of halo2 will this handle it...or should I go for the 8400 gs..
-
-
btw. i've owned an apple macbook, an asus z71v and now a dell laptop... and i can tell you that what it all comes down to is performance. Nothing is more annoying than a slow computer. I would choose dell over any company for laptops right now; it just makes the most sense. HP is the closest that comes when you compare hardware available to the laptops but they dont offer the 8600m gt so i decided to go with the dell... -
Ok, so yeah, the 8600m Gt is worth the money..well shall I go for an Integrated Sound Card Or For the other one......
and do you think the 7200 rpm hard drive makes any difference compared to another 5400 rpm hard drive..Thanks -
The soundcard might be a worthwhile upgrade if you are into music editing or just want the perfect sound. If you are content with normal quality then you probably dont need it. Some people have reported that the sound card has worked wonders for them, but its all a matter of perspective. I dont have the soundcard and i still think the sound is great so i didnt bother ordering it.
as for the hard drive... What do you use computer for? If you do photoshop editing or copy/write huge files then the 7200 rpm drive might be a good option... But if you are a regular gamer then the 5400 rpm might be a good choice IF you can get more HDD space with it. People say that the 7200 rpm should reduce the loading speed of games but not by a very significant amount. I have the 5400 RPM 160GB drive and i played all of the latest games like bioshock, crysis, cod4 and the loading times are very short.... plus i get extra storage.
Dont forget that the HDD you get even if it says 120Gb will probably only be able to hold ~100GB of data...
If i was you i would skip on the soundcard and get a 5400rpm hdd with more GB. But that is MY personal perference. You have to make your own choice that suits your needs better.
*EDIT: highly packed HDD's even if they are slower (5400RPM) can come close to performance in terms of speed to the faster HDD's that have data less compactly spaced. For example a 5400RPM 200GB HDD might be similar in speed to a 120GB 7200 RPM. There are charts and comparisons for this IF you really care that much you can find them... im just trying to give you a general idea. -
Thanks Man..IDK but your are a real help......I put in the Recommended configurations at dell website at dell's website....and this is what I got
BEFORE: $ 1,669
AFTER: $ 1,644
( I took out the sound card and replaced it for a bigger hard drive..)
I think it a little to much..But lets say ..Using coupons I might Lower it 1300 ...maybe hope so...
ALSO why did you go for the vostro and not for an inspiron....
and lets say ....what is the real difference between a Intel T5000 or an Intel T5250..Is a real difference..What do you think...
Also last question what might be the real difference between Vista Ultimate or Vista Home premium..Do you think Vista Ultimate Is worth it..Thanks for your support... -
why dont you want to get a vostro ? those are usually cheaper than the inspirons even without the coupons. have you tried to configure one ?
- there are no differences between the vostro and the inspirons except price and colors...
-And vista... what do you use it for ? you are a gamer? you want your system to be as fast as you can make it? get VISTA BASIC. you can look on M$ website and you will see that Basic is a great option. do you REALLY use media center or the other crap like AERO that slows down your system? basic is the way to go, you get lower price and higher performance.
dont buy yet let me take a look at dell's site i think i can config a computer better for you. -

-I have changed the screen from wxga to True life WSXGA. If you dont have eyesight problems.... WSXGA is the way to go.
-changed vista to basic since the extra features they offer are not only not worth it but also useless.
-added bluetooth for you.
-increased your processor to T7250 which is a great mid range processor. Will do anything you want it to but is still affordable.
-You can change your HDD if you feel its necessary... i find it a bit of a rip off to upgrade further so i left it at 160GB 5400rpm.
-NOTE: i chose the 9 CELL battery for you... i assume you want the increased battery life? I chose the 6 cell because unlike the 9 cell it doesnt stick out at the end of the computer.
how does this look ? all of the extra stuff you get and you save 600... -

The "soundcard" they're offering isn't a real soundcard. It's just a software solution so that you can adjust the sound.
-
-
-
To each his own... Basic is the lightest and the fastest. Who needs the other features ? media center? please dell installs media direct anyway why do you need 2 pieces of software to do the same? AERO =computer slow down for eye candy?
basic is the way to go... -
If going for the lightest XP is probably the way to go... -
but i mean look at the feature differences... for the average gamer/user there is pretty much none... -
And what are the details of the sound card? I was looking for the card on newegg but couldn't find it. And is it really better to upgrade this yourself?
Thx -
yeah dude its looks like windows vista basic is they way to go... -
-
ready boost is garbage. Considering how cheap 4 gigs of RAM is nowadays, That will blow away whatever readyboost has to offer.
Thinking Of Buying This dell...
