Well I have checked out the Inspiron 1420 and the Del XPS M1330 and maybe an HP Pavillion here and there. But I think I made up mind that I am going to go with the XPS. My reason: when I added on the bells and whistles for the 1420 it ended up costing the same price as these specs Im about to give you for the XPS. Now on this XPS it may not have a top end video or card or processor for that matter. Now I am not buying a laptop for awhile I just want to know which one I want for when I do get one. But if anyone feels like suggesting anything different please go ahead. Now when I actually do come down to ordering it I might get a little better processor. But anyways here are the specs that I have picked out:
System Color - Red/Black (Haven't decided yet)
Processor - Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 (2MB Cache/1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB)
Operating System - Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
LCD and Camera - Slim and Light LED Display with VGA Webcam (Add $150)
Memory - 1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz
Hard Drive - 120GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)
Optical Drive - CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW Drive)
Video Card - Intel Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator X3100
Wireless Cards - Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card (Add $25)
Mobile Broadband - None
Bluetooth Options - None
Battery Options - 37Whr Lithium Ion Battery (4 cell)
External Modem - None
Sound Options - High Definition Audio 2.0
Fingerprint Scanner - Biometric Fingerprint Reader (Add $25)
Total Price - $1,499 (before taxes)
So if you guys read that thank you and if you can, please tell me what I should upgrade or its just fine. This is my first laptop by the way I have never owned one or anyone in my family have so I have no experience at all with laptops, if this mattered.

You must have type that price wrong...what country you in? Those specs suggest you are on a tight budget...

Oh sorry I guess I put an extra 9 sorry for confusing anyone. But I do live in the USA. Its edited.

I'd strongly recommend the 6 cell battery. It's just a little more money and a little more weight, but doesn't change the form factor and you don't need to be tethered to an outlet as often.
-
how many more hours would i get out of a 6 cell than a 4 cell and how much more weight will add on because i really want to keep this thing light weighted and ultraportable and also how long does it to charge the battery or laptop (whatever you have to charge to get it back to full power)
-
The 6 cell is 56WHrs versus 37WHrs for the 4 cell. You're looking at closer to 4 hours of battery life with the 6 cell versus 2.5 hours with the 4 cell with your configuration (no discrete video). The 6 cell is about 0.3lbs heavier than the 3 cell, bringing the weight up from slightly under 4 lbs to nearly 4.3 lbs.
-
If you main aim is light weight, you can always carry around the AC adapter which is lighter than any battery imo
Of course, it's not as convenient. 4 cell is kinda small if you gonna use it in classes (I think u gonna use it for college, right?).

no im almost in high school so like i said im not planning to buy one for a couple of months as in maybe Christmas

correct me if i am wrong but Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 (2MB Cache/1.5GHz/667Mhz FSB) is not based on new Santarosa platform.
its the older C2D version -
-
The Santa Rosa platform does not include a CPU - it is just the Crestline chipset, wireless card, and optional Turbo Memory.
The T5250 doesn't run at the max 800MHz FSB supported by the Santa Rosa platform, but it doesn't make sense to say it's not based on the Santa Rosa platform.
All of these CPUs are Core 2 Duos. Only the FSB, cache and chipsets are changing. -
Well, intel did come out with a line of Santa-Rosa compatible cpus, and t5250 aint' one of 'em, don't u agree?
-
That's the problem. The T5250 is completely compatible with the Santa Rosa platform. If you mean the T5250 isn't a 800MHz FSB CPU, then correct. Architecture's still the same.

I'm merely auguing what Kernal originally said - the CPU isn't based on the platform - it is not of a different architecture.
-
Chuck, it's alright... I think he meant the same thing that you spelled out, just didn't quite put right into words

Add 8400GS and 6cell battery for extra $150.
CPU, memory, disk drive, mini PCI card staff and battery are upgradeable after warranty expires. -
