I really don't want any problems with my laptop. If mine has this problem I'm gonna be very disappointed. Is it really as wide scale as these forums make it out to be?
-
Seems pretty wide scale although only about 42% on some poll confirmed that they had the problem. I would say, there's nothing you can do about it. Just wait until it arrives, if you ordered it already, and either return it or get them to give you some money if you do have the problem.
-
I would not fully base it on a poll, because it seems to be alot more people with problems with there laptop on these boards or people who are waiting for there laptop, then people who don't have any problems.

Not sure if this is the same issue, but a solution in the form of disabling Sound Enhancements may have fixed it for some? If so, I wonder if it's a Vista thing.
-
Oh come on... read the old thread - it's a fixable problem - make them send you a different AC.
I would not even call this a "problem" -
Have we confirmed that a different adapter fixes the problem? It fixes it even when the computer is running on battery? I haven't seen that post.
That being said, I hope some of the current delays are because Dell is fixing the issue! It seemed like it should be a simply matter of taking a little more care with the wiring. -
Stella, IC you ended up returning the 1520 and keeping the Asus. I guess the headphone jack was the final straw for you. Had I wanted a 1520 this would have been a deal breaker for me too. To the origial poster, I would not purchase a 1520 if sound issues would be an issue. At this point, it sounds like a design flaw and hoping for a good one is just wishful thinking. I would avoid the hassel of ordering, waiting and eventually returning. Having a expresscard sticking out of the side to avoid an issue that should never have slipped by development is just wrong. Believe me, those cards sticking out can get damaged over time. I have a PC wireless card on my older Toshiba and I baby that thing. Still the card got bent somehow and I don't know how that happend. It still works, but it really turned me off with cards on the sides. I got a BT mouse and BT headset with my 1420 and like that solution better. But that does not give the option of plugging external devices. Its really pathetic that Dell messed up the sound on a home based notebook. I can see maybe on a business notebook where multimedia is less important. But an Inspiron should never have this sort of issue.
This headphone jack noise problem is getting me nervous.
