Due to an occasional stutter in the sound on my Vostro 1400, I contacted Dell Support.

FYI: the stuttering problem occurs regularly, as a direct result of CPU usage; however, I can open several intensive programs simultaneously without a skip in audio playback. Rather, the stutter occurs with relatively little CPU strain; for example, I will be doing some simple word processing while listening to music, and if I suddenly scroll to the bottom of the page, the sound will skip. This occurs with WMP, WinAmp, iTunes, etc. Updating sound drivers didn't help. The problem occurs in MediaDirect. A diagnostic revealed nothing.

And so, a Dell technician is coming tomorrow to replace my motherboard and speakers.

Into the hands of the Lord I commit my laptop. 'sniff'

I wonder if this has something to do with the processor changing to a lower power state when you are doing the simple word processing.
