    Hey,

Hope this is the right section for this considering its the dell part of the forum. Ok so here is the deal, I'm thinking of ditching my Macbook for a Dell 1530. Mainly because I want a laptop with a higher resolution and one which has a dedicated graphics card.

I really like the idea of the dell, it looks nice and it also seems well built compared to the MacBook which is made of plastic.

So a few questions, what resolution should I go for. On the dell site I have the option for 1280x800, 1440x900 and 1920x1200, I have ruled out the 1280x800 as that is what is on my current MacBook. So its either the 1440x900 or 1920x1200, I was first thinking of 1920x1200 but do you think it is too much for a 15" screen would the 1440x900 be better. I also hear the 1440x900 have the best quality screens, as they are not grainy.

Also does ubuntu work right out the box with this laptop, I want to dual boot Vista 64bit and Ubuntu. I hear a lot of dells work right out the box, so I'm hoping this one will too.

Hope you guys can help me as I'm very confused at the minute.

    Thanks.

1440x900 is probably the best bet. If you are gonna play games on it, I think that that's the resolution that will serve you the best, while not compromising on game settings.

I would ditch the MacBook right NOW! The prices are good because you can get 25% off if you live in the US. The 1440x900 is the best because if you game, you are better off gaming at 1440x900, since the 8600 GT with DDR3 memory cannot handle gaming at the max resolution for more current games. I heard that the icons and words are too small for the full hi-def 1920x1200. Ubuntu should work right out of the box, but I cannot attest to that as I am waiting a VERY long time for my laptop. I and many other members of this forum have been waiting for the M1530 for nearly half a month to a month for the laptop. I think the processors and batteries are holding them up right now. If you are going to ditch and are in a hurry, ditch the laptop and order from the Outlet because it is faster. Or you can wait a month for a NEW laptop...Just my two cents.

    Hey,

Thanks for the replies, I live in the UK so I'm not sure what kind of discount I can get but I will go for the 1440x900 resolution. So I guess its time to put my MacBook up for sale, will have a look on the outlet once I sell my MacBook, I might be able to pick up a bargain.
