Those that have had your screen replaced, any tips/thoughts? (For a M1330 replacing the LED Chi-Mei CMO)

A local service tech is supposed to call me in 1-2 days. (I'm in the USA btw)

Granted the Dell CSR I was chatting with at the time of setting up the call could not tell me anything about which brand I'd be receiving (and I understand that.. it's just not the way their system was set up).

But now I'm starting to hear that even the local tech will be of no help as well?

So it really IS a crap shoot then eh of what I'll be recieving?

I'm within the 21 days return window, so that's reassuring. If my replacement (god I swear if they give me another CMO.. lol) I'll just return it.

I'm assuming that the 21 day return window dosen't 'reset' after a service call... it will still be from my invoice date (Feb-27-08).

    Thanks

Well if you dont want a butchered up laptop get a replacement. I got a replacement fairly quickly within 1 week.(for hard drive noise issues) Though after comparison...i sent the replacement back cause the screen was a samsung.

    Duly noted nobscot6 :)

Acorn, yes, I'll keep my eye out for any 'butcher marks' If there are I'll request a replacement or do a full return.

I'm sorta in a unique situation though, in addition to this CMO M1330, I have a Toshiba M1330 as well (outlet vs new, saved some money on the outlet CMO version). Both are Feb-27-08 invoice dates, so I'm sorta "playing a race against time".

The Toshiba version is quite nice, and I'd love to keep it, if it was only ~$500 cheaper, ie the same price as the outlet version.

"Because it was a Samsung"..... WTF?????

If this is in fact a 1330 and the screen is LED - you sent back the best screen available.

I've had all 3 now - the Toshi was good - but the Sammy is as good, if not a bit better.

    Please elaborate?

I hope you didn't get influenced by what was going on with the 1530 Samsung posts. Remember, the complaints about 1530 Sammy screens were about CCFL screens - the 1530 still isn't available with LED. So, IMHO these are completely two seperate issues (unless you are talking about 1330 CCFL)

Seriously, why did the Sammy suck? Like I said before, I've had all 3 and it certainly is real close between the Toshi and Sammy - with the Sammy being brighter. If I had to choose it'd be #1 Sammy #2 Toshi and #3 CMO

Service tech is coming out this evening to replace my screen.

He won't know what brand until he opens the box, and he won't open the box until he's in my presence. He said that he likes to have a witness in case what dell sent him was fubard to begin with.

Soooo.. expect an update here later on tonight.

Tech came out and replaced my CMO with..... another CMO :confused2:

So now I go from Grainy, dead pixels, horizontal lines, flickers to:
Graiy, dead SPLOTCH of pixels, horizontal lines, flickers, a broken/gapped cover piece (the corner piece next to the "XPS | M1330" on the left hand side), and I swear I think the keyboard/base is 'bowed' up.

Off to talk to Dell CSRs for a return/re-send.

    -edit, Interesting.

I told them I just wanted to return and get a 'new' one (same specs). But seeing as how it was an Outlet version to begin with, he's sending basically a 'grab bag' of parts system. Pift. But here's the kicker... my invoice date is STILL gonna be 2-27-08, and he said it'll take 10-15 days to receive it. Interesting... that conveniently can get me past the 21 day return.

Ultimately here's my question: Since this is a 'special case' yada yada, do you think I'd still get dinged the shipping/re-stocking fee if I decide to NOT keep this refurb they're sending out?

If this next replacement comes & you're past your 21 days from the ship date of original purchase, you cannot even return it, let alone get dinged by the shipping/re-stocking fee.

What What What?!?!?!?! You've GOT to be kidding me!!!! How do you know this info Speed?

I asked the CSR if my Invoice Date would be 'moved' to tonight, and he said it'd remain @ 2-27-08. Funny, he never spoke of return options or anything... it sounded like he wasn't very amused with me, nor pleasant and just wanted to get rid of me.

I'm not sure why you're so surprised that you didn't get a coveted* Sammy or TMD with your outlet M1330...

*I say coveted because we've made it so: I'm sure there are a few good CMOs as well as a few bad Sammys & TMDs around.

Umm traveller, since I have access to another M1330 w/ the Toshbia, I can see with my own eyes how much it kicks the crap outta the CMO :)

I'll probably just call up Dell and tell em I wanna do a return, they won this round lol.
