Hello. I couldn't seem to find any threads on this laptop that just came out. I'm in the market for a new laptop and was interested in this one so thought I'd get some feedback. This might be a dumb question, but what is the point of this G series if Dell have Alienware? I found it strange as it competes with their gaming line.

Anyway, I'm looking for a 17" laptop that will be my main computer for work. Im a video editor. Need to be able to edit 4k raw footage smoothly in premiere pro and Davinci resolve. I also like gaming obviously. I travel constantly hence why I need a laptop have to stay mobile. I've been using Alienware the last few years. But I've seen all sorts of problems with their new line so I took interest in the g7 and possibly the xps17 (the thin size is appealing). Let me know your thoughts, there really doesn't seem to be much info online about the new G7. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I places my order they day it was made available on Dell's website. Still waiting on it to be shipped. I believe reviewers don't have a model to work on yet. Coming from a Gigabyte Aero 15 OLED so this will be an interesting change

Without AMD internals, the new G7 will fail to grab attentions from buyers of other brands since Dell's mid-end gaming laptops does not priced competitively when compared to Lenovo, Acer, Asus, as well as others.

Just got mine today. Build is solid. I got the G7 17 with i7 and a 2070 super. Its a rather heavy laptop but its definitely built like a tank. Battery life is mediocre about 2 hrs. My biggest gripes
    - 2 usb ports. Seriously? 2 usb ports? There is a ton of real estate on the side that is wasted so now i'll have to go get a usb hub
    - It has an additional NVME slot but either they forgot to give me a bracket for it or they want people to buy the brackets. Either way i didnt get one so I had to find a work around in order to install an additional hard drive.

That one opinion. I am sure they will sell just fine. I would not touch an ASUS with a 100 ft pole.

U probably had a lemon from Asus in the past, just like what i had with Fujitsu yrs ago...
My experience with my Asus quite good. The first generation Transformer T100 still survives till today... Despite the screen is showing signs of degration, with corners getting "not light up", the battery still strong to give me roughly 5hrs of computing time...

No. sorry, I had 3 of one device and one of another and all four crapped out well within the warranty period and Asus did not honor their warranty. I would never buy anything from that hackjob of a company.

We’re you able to get a bracket ? I have the same machine, so far I am impressed with the quality and performance but I want to add an additional SSD for storage.

It's going to be the same bracket that Dell uses in all their laptops. If you go to Amazon or Ebay it's available when you search for the 2280 heat sink.

Unfortunately I sent mine back. I was getting thermal throttled while playing any game so I ended up going to AW instead

From what I see in the Inspiron Dell forum the G series is lacking in a cooling capacity I'll be interested to see if this model has changed anything.
To answer the question of why the G series it is not competition for the Alienware which is a real Gaming Notebook. These G series are to give people that can't afford an Alienware notebook something to play with In this case you do get what you pay for.
i have had two Asus Gaming Notebooks my first a G75VW. I had issues with it twice the first time they clean installed Windows and did not solve any issues. The 2nd time The CL people got involved since I was heavily involved in the ROG Forums they fixed it and my sister is still using it today. I have had my G752 VY Since 2016 no issues at all. Being in the forums for both ROG and Dell they seem to be competing on who can have the worst customer support. Some real nightmares for people with both companies. My advice for anyone purchasing from either company is to put your new notebook through the paces benchmark it hard Test In for CPU Temps under pressure and Furmark for Video card, if it can't keep up just send it back before the 30 day return period runs out. Do Not Hesitate chances are you'll never get it sorted out if you don't.
I am having good luck with my Insprion 3768 no issue and in my 2nd year. The only issue I've had and Tech support was horrible even with Pro Plus 3 years. first was the trackpad wouldn't turn off with mouse present. this one took over a week to solve and it was the 3 or 4th tech that solves the issue. It was quite simple the trackpad is a precision trackpad window supported. i needed to upgrade the Intel IO driver. I found this the last tech told me to uninstall Dell Update and Dell update Assistant and Install Dell Command Update this is a manual update program that is used internally by the techs. Sure worked for me and now I only get updates when I choose and I get to select to install or NOT.
The second issue was the Wi-fi- card failing after 3 or 4 different tech support idiots all concluding with Reseting my notebook. Which i refused todo i purchased a replacement Card install it and haven' looked back since. This would have been a major issue for any ordinary user. Either one would have been a real nightmare for most ordinary users
Dell Seems to have taken a serious turn for the worse again with support. last time they did this i think it took a class action lawsuit to turn the company around and save it. Asus support has been horrible all along I don't remember a time when they had any good tech support. There ROG support forum has been in the past very helpful to those of us that found it. over the years there have been some Very switch on people hang out there.
