Is turning on speedshift with epp = 32 increasing cpu performance and heat?
-
-
won't do anything for you.
-
I don't think so.
-
it actually does in games.
Update.
Just tried 32 and 128 values, with 32 i had good performance in HotS (same map), while on 128 i had a bit lower fps by 5-10 units. Also lower EPP causes a bit higher temps (because of clocks i guess)Last edited: Sep 6, 2018 -
RTFM (or use search function) on the main ThrottleStop thread.
EPP is essentially a weighted setting that affects what multiplier your CPU will be centered around.
It does not affect clock speeds directly, but does affect how much time your CPU spends in a given multiplier range out of its total usable multiplier spectrum.
So in short, a lower EPP setting is going to keep your CPU running at its upper limits more of the time and a higher EPP setting will keep your CPU down towards its lower limits more of the time. It DOES NOT actually make your CPU clock speeds any faster though (those stay within the same limits), only the CPU's responsiveness to a given load.
AKA:
EPP == 000 --> similar to desktop
EPP == 128 --> similar to laptop/notebook
EPP == 255 --> similar to ultrabookSherif_k and AlexanderKim like this. -
When i have throttlestop off, it uses 128 i guess?

I'm not certain but I think that's what the new battery slider on Windows 10 controls when running stock or without TS. If correct, that means the battery saver end of that slider increases the EPP value and the performance end of that slider decreases the EPP value on the fly. I have a feeling there may be a bit more to it than that though.

So i think it's better to turn off SpeedShift EPP control in Throttlestop and let windows power plans to control it?
-
does TS work correctly with Balanced power plan if i have speedshift on in TS?
-
Yes
-
Who has more priority - TS or windows speedshift? If i have EPP = 0, would windows correct it if i'm on battery.
Also, it's impossible to have speedshift ON on 1st profile, and OFF on the 2nd profile. -
Disable speedstep in TS and check off speed shift EPP for TS to manage EPP values. I usually set 80 on AC and 180 on battery.Maleko48 likes this.

with 180 EPP isn't your PC very laggy?
-
No. Its fine to extend battery life by limiting cpu to 2.1-2.3GHz at EPP 180. If its laggy, try 165.
-
The actual frequencies probably vary from one CPU model to the next. Some fine tuning is usually required. But also note, frequency != power consumption these days.
-
Yep you're right. On SST 0 my CPU consume 0.6-1W at 31x-34x. If SST is 180 the cpu idles at 8x to 12x and power consumption drops from 0.6 to 0.1-0.3W increasing battery life from 8 hrs to 10-11 hrs on single charge.
-
@Vasudev lol, 8 hrs on single charge, do you have any programs installed at all? Or do you use powersave mode all the time? I barely push 3 hours from my machine.

I have Visual studio 2015, VSCode,lots of games and same things on Linux as well. Here is a screenshot with light usage:
Somewhat in idle state:
