Hi I wonder if anyone can help.
I have 17 inch 1900x1200 lcd in a dell 9400. I recently got several little flies inside the screen (thunderbugs).
These have now been removed but in the process there are 2 plastic sheets that sit ontop of the main lcd screen between this and the glass. The bottom of the 2 is much thicker and this has become badly scratched when wiping the bugs away.
This really affects the picture now and the marks on this filter show up badly when using the laptop.
Anyone know where I can buy this plastic filter from?
The lcd is mint and works perfect without this filter although it causes bad reflection issues if it is not used.
Would appreciate any advice
Kind regards
Jamie

Strange, I've never heard of insects getting trapped inside LCD screens. I thought TFT screens were completely sealed against foreign bodies.

Strange indeed, but anything is possible I guess.
To the OP, I would call Dell. -
they sure can!
My mate got a couple in his inspiron last year too.
I just realised the plastic sheets actually sit behind the lcd glass screen between that and a plastic white background.
I have now taken the sheet out and it is ok much better than in but i do now see a few white lines and dots which only show on a white/cream pages - which i guess is caused from not having plastic filter sheet between. They dont come up when it was there.
Really wanna get this sorted and dont wanna shell out for a new screen as i only actually need this plastic sheet. -
quoted off Wikipedia:
"In addition to acting as a crop pest, these insects may also enter the home and distress inhabitants by their presence. Homeowners who move ornamental plants indoors during cold weather may awaken thrips from diapause. When present in large numbers, they can cover wall surfaces, curtains, and windowsills. Their small size also gives them an uncanny ability to find their way into seemingly impenetrable places, such as the inside of watch faces or between the panes of glass on LCD monitors [1]. Once inside, they often become trapped and die, leaving the corpse behind the screen indefinitely. Removal is often only possible if the LCD is dismantled and cleaned."
Thunderbugs inside LCD - now need new filter screen
