    Hi everybody,

Ordered a 9300 yesterday, and got upgraded to overnight shipping by Dell when I talked to their support. Here's my problem... I'm heading on vacation this Friday evening (bought the computer last night to take advantage of the 40% off) and I don't want the computer to be delivered when I'm not here. Because of that, I had it shipped to my relative's house in Virginia where I will be staying. The estimated ship date is listed at August 1, so that wouldn't have been a problem with one day shipping--I would be in Virginia and could sign for it myself (as Dell says I'm required to do).

Checking the order status, though, I find that it's already been kitted and assembled, and is now in the testing phase. That was the status as of this morning at around 10am central. Is it possible that it might be shipped in the next day or two, meaning that it would be delivered on Thursday or Friday? If that's the case, I'd just have it delivered here in Indiana, since I have to sign for it (and there's no tax on it in IN either...) Should I expect it to ship before Thursday if it's been in testing since 10am today (Monday?)

I'd like to know what to expect before asking Dell to change the shipping address AGAIN (I already switched it to VA when I found out that the estimated ship date was August 1.)

    Thanks!
    pb

I doubt its going to be shipped earlier. The notebooks are shipped from China....

Testing phase is usually pretty quick. The boxing phase on the other hand will take forever which is your next step. It takes anywhere from a day to 3 days to be boxed (actually it is being shipped from Malaysia over to TN), so I really don't look for it to be there before Friday.

If it was me, I would just leaving the ship address the same because it would be a safer choice. I'm really kinda surprised that Dell is saying you have to sign for it versus having a relative sign for it. I thought Dell just had to have a signature. If it arrives before you get to VA and they don't accept your relative's signature, you can have it held at the UPS/FedEx/DHL warehouse. Or, your relative could explain that you will be there on Monday, and to have the deliverer try again then. If you change it to IN, after 3 attempts, they would send it back to Dell.

My Inspiron 9300 took 4 days from testing to my door step. So it should be arriving in Virginia Wednesday at the earliest or Friday, maybe Saturday at the latest. But a relative signed for mine, so I don't see as it's an issue. If they won't let a relative sign for it, you can always reschedule to deliver the next day, or pick it up from a nearby UPS warehouse, as SouthernGirl said.

    Thanks all.

Just a little more confused now, but in a more enlightened sort of way. Just checked and testing is complete, so it's now in 'boxing'. The change happened some time in the last four hours.

I take it that it's coming via FedEx if it's going through Memphis. FedEx's website lists an estimated delivery in Indiana of Thursday if it's shipped from KL tomorrow. LM, you said it was 4 days from testing to doorstep. That's with next day shipping? So you ordered it one day (say Sunday), it finished testing the next (Mon), and got it when, Friday?

Since the signature doesn't seem to be the issue, I'm now thinking about tax vs. no tax. VA charges; IN doesn't. So is it worth the $70 to have it sent here rather than VA and chance it not getting here? I'm guessing Dell won't be any help at all in determining the actual ship date ("Your order says an estimated ship date of August 1st." "I know, but if it's assembled already, is it POSSIBLE that it will arrive earlier?" "Your order says an estimated ship date of August 1st.")

Ah, the joys of global trade...

I'm not sure about who will delivery it. Mine came with UPS, but all of my parts that I've requested came from DHL. Generally most systems arrive earlier than posted date on Dell. Still $70 isn't really worth the chance of it being sent back to dell in my opinion.
