OK, So this being my first post here, Just got my E1705 Yesterday.
1st thing.
Go to the add/remove program icon in your control panel.
Next, after it loads up, go down the list and decide what you might want to keep, and what you do not need..BE CAREFULL as not to remove any actual windows programs, IE: Updates and such.
Now using the change/remove button on the right hand side.
Remove the programs you do not intend to use.
Reboot if needed.
One of the first things i did after reciveing mine, and cleaning out the bloatware, was to download 3D mark 01. The reason for that is it gives a truer representation of the video card then the newer versions IMHO.
For the first run, your score will be like a dismal 5071 or close?![]()
At this point i was dissapointed as well.
But also having watched the framerate of the benchmark..Also why i used 2001. Becouse it will run at over 60 "FPS" (frames per second). With this x1400
It was noted that at the rate of 60 frames per second it locked in on that, and tried to keep it there, rather then let the card loose and get the 150 to 200 fps it is capable of!
So, after seeing that the dell drivers have a built in limiter to keep the card cooler, also lessen the power drain, i went to http://www.omegadrivers.net/
and got the latest drivers for ati w/ winxp and downloaded them to my documents.
after the download finished, i made a folder to extract them to, sos not to fill up your nice clean doc folder with that done, went back to the add/remove programs and used the ati uninstall to remove all dell, ati stuff from this fine piece of equipment.
After a reboot, in my doc in the omega file. used the omega install and let `r rip.
after the install and another reboot. quick setup of the "basic" control panel.
Then re-ran 3d mark 2001 a second time,
WOW!!!![]()
![]()
![]()
the performance had doubled!!!
second run was 10181![]()
. After a bit more adjusting in the ATI control panel
3rd run was 10536![]()

Which was, by the way The best in class, a#1 tested on my " Match your active 3DMark2001 / SE project (appr. CPU & GPU speed)" for the dell systems there.
Also a far sight better then this poor guy.

Proving again, that dell is underclocking everything it sells,![]()
I feel, it is up to us as a group to correct this and share it![]()
Now, As i am only referring to video part of the system, and hoping that others will join in and make it a bit eaiser for the lesser talented users out there capable of making there product better, as it should be. after all that is how most of learned.
If anyone has other things to add please, Post it here!!![]()
One Last thing...Though' This works great for me... As i am a long timeover clocker..Do This at your own risk..I will not be held responsible for your computer!

3dmark2001 is soooo outdated
Run 3dMark05 instead as a suggestion -
