    Tips for buying from Dell over the phone?

    So, since Dell basically charges everyone a different price for the same thing depending on where you're ordering from, what coupons are available, what time of day it is, what method you use to order, who you happen to speak with, what your horoscope is, etc, etc... Are there any tips that you Dell veterans out there would like to share on how to get the best price when ordering over the phone?

    Normally I just go coupon-digging and order online, but I want to try something different this time. Besides, I've heard that ordering over the phone can result in even lower prices than coupon discounts, if you talk to them the right way?

    I have found that prior to talking/chatting with a Dell Rep it's best to have a few systems "pre configured" and saved to your cart. That way, you are able to know what or if you are getting a better deal, and have the latest applicable deals right there ~ compared to what the Rep is giving you at that time.

    Also, here is a really good guide that Les a fellow forum member wrote that is very helpful!

    (Remember, you may (and prolly) will not get the "best" deal from the first Rep you speak with). So, it's up to you if you want to dial back/or chat with another Rep! :)

    A How-To on Making The Best Computer Deal

    Do you have access to Dell EPP (Employee Purchase Program)? That is another way to get additional savings up to 7% (or more). Thru your School, Employer/Govt. Affilations,etc.

    I did almost the same thing back in late 2006 when I got a $2200 Inspiron E1705 for $1300. It may take a few calls, 3 in my case and please remember to politely hang up even if you find a CSR who is not willing to deal. After you are done hanging up, just call again and you most likely will not get the same CSR.

    If you are getting close and the CSR is not willing to give you more part upgrades, start working on a warranty upgrade. My CSR threw in a 3 year warranty for free to close the deal. That ended up being a real money saver because the Inspiron E1705 started developing GPU problems, so it was replaced with a XPS M1730, which was recently replaced with an Alienware M17x (GPU issues also).
