Im in the process of updating all the drivers on my system, and of course the first place im checking is the Dell Support website. Now, according to the support website, the only optical driver is for the Hitachi GA10N, however my system is equipped with a TSSTcorp TS-T633A.

Could any other Studio 1537 owners do me a favour and right click on your DVD drive in My Computer, and see what drive you have under the hardware tab?

BluRay drive 1537's need not apply :)

    thanks.

studio 17 here, but the same TSSTcorp TS-633A drive. Been trying to find an update for the driver/bios due to DVD burning issues but no luck as yet, using standard Microsoft drivers at the moment.

Dell support emailed back quite quickly:

Dear sir, Thank you for contacting Dell E-mail Hardware Technical Support.
I will be assisting you with your Dell Studio 1537 (Service tag: xxxxxxx). Thank you for giving me an opportunity to assist you.
After going through your e-mail, I understand that you are facing issue while reinstalling drivers and the firmware.
We appreciate your observations. I assure you that I will personally look into the matter and provide you the best possible resolution.
Sir, the firmware, which you are trying to install is not for your system. As your Optical drive is of other Manufacturer. Your Optical drive doesn’t have any firmware to update.
Sir, you also mentioned in your email that you are trying to download other drivers also.
Please let me know if you have any issue as that I can assist you further. Please write back to me with the results so that I may assist you further. Regards, Dell tech.

So, not overly helpful, but not completely useless either

It works fine, im really just curious as to why on the support site they list a Hitachi drive, when it seems like no 1537's have a Hitachi drive?

The machines use various different optical and hard drives. If you notice on the Dell driver page they have some Seagate drivers for the hard drive as well. My machine had a Western Digital hard drive and so I didn't need to install the Seagate drivers after a clean install.

The email you got was correct. You don't need to download any drivers for your drive since the most up to date ones are the Windows default drivers.
