I am planning on heading to Uni next year so will need a laptop. Normally I would be happy to wait until the end of the year to start looking seriously for one, most likely the Vostro 1500 with 8600M GT. However that plan just went out the window with it being replaced by the 1510 at some stage probably in the near future. Combine that will Dell reducing the level of customization sometime in the future as well, I am not sure whether it would be best to buy that Vostro now or wait for the end of the year and see what crops up. I am in New Zealand and would want to spend $1500 max, the less the better (which made the 1500 ideal)
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

If I were you, I would definitely buy it. You could get even 8400GT for some extra dollars (cmiw, superior than 8600m), and it still below 1500. I've been looking forward to buy this laptop since they are having clearance sell ($300 discount till 17 july), but since I couldn't find anywhere, I picked up BenQ S41-447 instead.

Just noticed that the Vostros upgrades in NZ got a whole lot cheaper. That makes the choice a bit easier :D

yah I used the $500 off deal too, pretty sure its the best lappy deal I've ever seen, see my sig. But I'd go for it, 8600GT equiped lappy's are disappearing.

Yup I scored a 1700 during that sale. I was able to get a T7250 CPU, 2GB, 8600M GT card, Dual Layer DVD writer, a 17" carrying case and a Microsoft wireless mouse all for $824.

I love the laptop, highly recommend that is until DeLL releases the E-Series Latitude. :)

Ordered :D When I configured it online it came to $1337NZD which I was VERY excited about, but when I ordered on the phone it came out as $1303 with exact same config, not that I'm complaining! (much)
