Those are some interesting results. Alienware held up really well against the newer, more powerful Dell (stock). That says something about the power of the 7950 GTX SLI

what if alienware updates with X7900 with santa rosa platform? why alienware is so slow to update its product line with new platform and CPU?

This is what was expected w/ limited memory on newer cards.

Newer doesn't mean it's more powerful.

We should not forget that 8700M GT is only a performance range card while 7950GTX is a high-end flagship 7 series card. Wait till nVidia releases the 8800M or whatever their high-end 8 series cards, they will put 7900 series to shame.

I feel that DELL should have waited for the 8800M, because they already have a Core 2 7950GTX XPS.

both dell and alienware didn't offer santa rosa + 7950GTX, what a pity.

They probably don't offer it since they've gotta design 2 different platforms - one for santa rosa and 8xxx cards, one for santa rosa and 7xxx cards. Especially since 8800s are coming soon, it makes no financial sense to both companies to build an extra platform just to cater to a small niche of gamers

I looked at the Alienware Area 51 m9750 but decided to go with the XPS M1730 because of two key points.

    1. DX10
    2. Cost

I'm sure when the Vista bugs and driver issues are fixed and optimised the performance of the XPS will be much higher.

Well lets hope for that to happen!
By the way, the reasons why i chose a XPS was because
    1. No Alienware Retail in Japan
    2. XPS has higher proccessor
    3. Dx10
    4. Vista

i just ordered the 1730m & am quite stoked with that review. The way people have been writing off the xps i thought it may not even be able to play "minesweeper".
