    it doesnt matter which it is. your laptop will only do 1.5 from what i read.

    there isnt options in the bios to change anything anyways

    Yes, does not matter as the drive physically cannot produce anywhere near 1.5 throughput regardless of the interface.

    I guess I'm asking if the SATA interface on the Vostro 1500 is SATA 1.5 or 3.0 for a possible future HD upgrade.

    I think that it's 3.0. But, like I said...it will not make any difference. 1.5Gb/s and 3.0Gb/s are simply references to the potential speed of the SATA interface itself. It is physically impossible for a single hard drive to get anywhere close to the 1.5 potential. A single drive of any type (laptop or desktop) cant sustain more than 50 to 60MB/s....let alone approach 1.5Gb/s. Now, you can connect a SATA I or SATA II to either a SATA I or a SATA II controller, but speed is not going to change.
