Okay the 1705 has a 17" screen versus the 1505 's screen but as I wil be gaming by plugging into the 45" Panasonic that issue is dead. So the large screen is still nice but not an issue.

    A. 1705 with T2400, UXGA, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 667Mhz, 80gb@7200rpm, 256mb go 7900 GS V-CARD = $1560

    B. 1505 with T2400, UXGA, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM @ 553Mhz, 80gb@7200rpm, 256mb ATI MOBILITY RADION X1400 V-CARD = $1235

    $300 difference. Now the questions;

    1. All the 1505's SDRAM is listed @ 533mhz while the 1705 has 667mhz available. Is there a difference and can that be special ordered or is the differnece so minute aso to not worry about it.

    2. The 1505's does not get the better 7800 or 7900 GO V-card. Is the ATI MOBILITY CARD AS GOOD. I game and my ATI in my N3010 is not up to handling all the games. can you special order the 78/ 7900 for the 1505.

Or since $300 difference is so small the upgrades to the 1505 will surpass the cost of a 1705.?

As far as I know, theres no NVidia card available for an e1505, Hmm, its a tough choice, I was in a similar situation when I bought my e1505, however I went with the e1505 since I wanted something a bit smaller to travel with, and I thought the e1705 would be too bulky to carry around everywhere. I would say if you are gaming, go for the E1705, im no gamer but from what my friends tell me who are they say that the Nvidia GeoForce 7900 is better than the X1400

Well the screen is not the issue...the card cannot be upgraded into the E1505...that is going to be very hard to cool in the smaller area. Just for the sake of better performance I would have to say the E1705.

If you were able to upgrade the E1505 it would still be a little cheaper, but for now that is not an option. :p

    i'm in a similar rut

still deciding on E1505's portability versus the better gfx card of the E1705.

most probably the E1705 if not carrying around often

    I've gone this route, had a 1505 with a 1400 and now have a 1705 with a 7900. I had 1705 with a 7800 in between those two.

You could probably downgrade the 667 memory in the 1705 to bring the price closer together. Downgrading memory speed and going with the 7800 would probably get the 1705 real close to the 1505.

The 1400 lags far behind the 7800 for gaming with the 7900 being another jump ahead of the 7800.

If you are going to game, and can stand the couple of pounds in extra weight along with the bigger footprint, get the 1705.

I'd look at the 1210 if you want portability and gaming ability that is probably close to the 1505 with 1400. I'd compare the benchmarks as they come out for 1210 with the 1505 with a 1400 to be sure before I ordered one.

If you are only hooking it to your tv, why not build a desktop? It will be cheaper and much more upgradeable.

that and the fact I wanted to travel with it, is the reason I chose the e1505 over the e1705

The e1705 is definatley better than the e1505, with the subwoofer, Nvidia graphics, and better screen options, but yeah, the wieght is what really kills it. Go with the 1505.
