Hey all i just got my xps and im having problems getting the touch pad to work properly.

First of all it was working fine when i got the laptop
    installed vista ultimate 32 bit
still worked until i left it sitting closed for awhile came back and the touch pad was going beserk doing what it wanted to do showing it was being touched when it wasnt

so i reinstalled the drivers updated to a08 bios installed all windows updates etc..

now it doesnt work at all lol
the left and right click buttons do work though
    any ideas?

one more thing when using a ps 2 mouse with no touchpad drivers installed the mouse will sometimes start clicking without me doing it..

Try previous driver versions, check the settings, and then contact Dell.

Yeah, you could try taking the laptop apart and reseating the cable to the touchpad, if you can get to it, but it would probably be better to let Dell handle it.

well...the touchpad on the m1530 is horrible to begin with (Dell used the Alps touchpad for the 1530 as opposed to the Synaptic's on the 1330s...), truely a HORRIBLE touchpad, and I would recommend an external (wired or wireless) mouse even if you DO somehow manage to get the touchpad working.

(PS. Maybe it is disabled from the touchpad control? Do you have an external mouse hooked? Doing so may disable the touchpad on some computers)

    Not sure if this helps...

but I have a Vostro 1500 w/Vista that did the same thing. I tried disabling certain touchpad settings and installed different drivers but nothing worked. I found a link to the Dell forums where tons of people where having the same issue. I was shipped an new AC power adapter and now the touchpad works perfectly. You may want to look into this.

Yeah, my touchpad just starts going nuts whenever it feels like it. I don't want to have to go through 12 different driver versions and then have a dell technician tear apart my laptop (again) to try to fix a touchpad that is going to suck anyway.

    Dell quality at its best.

This snap-together laptop is starting to become this biggest piece of sh*t I've ever used.
