Has anyone had a problem with the Inspiron 8500 trackpad? When I turn "tapping" off and move my finger across the pad to scroll through programs in the start menu..... programs open inadvertently (not folders). The Dell technical support person has replaced the trackpad and palmrest. He turned tapping off an the machine was doing the exact same thing. Needless to say Dell eventually replaced the machine. But I'm still having the same problem. Any ideas?

That's pretty curious, is this your first laptop with a trackpad or have you used them in the past without problems? I'm just wondering if maybe your hand size or the way you use the trackpad is possibly heavy handed or something odd like that.

I've never heard of this problem, I have an Inspiron 8200 and certainly don't get that. Also, are you sure that Dell actually replaced your machine when you sent it in or did they just replace the trackpad? Sometimes problems in one area are just symptoms of a larger or different problem so they may have replaced the trackpad but that wasn't directly causing this symptom. I guess the only sure fire way to find if its the machine or the way you use it is to find someone else with an 8500 that claims not to have any problems and then see if you can use it okay. Of course that's easier said than done...so if this is annoying enough for you maybe just find another machine if your warranty is still good.
