Ok, I found some Transcend memory on Newegg for a good price, but wanted to know how good this stuff is. I read some of the reviews posted on Newegg and it seems to be a mixed bag. Some of the reviews seem to state that the memory works great for about 4 months then starts showing errors. Can anyone give some thoughts on this memory or better yet an alternative brand? Thanks.

snyperx,
From the reviews that I have read this is good memory. SG has some in her I9300 and says she hasn't had a problem. When I read the reviews on newegg there were alot of good reviews on this RAM and just a few problems...all companys tend to have bad batches.
I think you will be safe buying this RAM. -
I really haven't seen any complaints on here. I've only had one problem with mine -- and that was due to design flaw in the 9300. The ram area overheated and laptop shut down, but that could happen with any memory.

I have talked to 2 buddies that have ordered that RAM and have had not problems. They ordered the 1GB sticks x 2. They said that it is great for nearly have the price of what they wanted at stores.

Transcend is rebadged Samsung memory. Samsung makes a huge amount of RAM/memory , so it's pretty safe.
I had Transcend memory in my Sager before I upgraded - no problems at all, decent quality memory. -
Well pulled the trigger on 2, 1GB sticks. Came to $152.50 shipped. Should have 2Gb in the 9300 by late next week.

I would just put up your 512MB stick on Ebay and see what you get for it. That is what I am going to do when I buy my 2GB.
-
I would do that, but for warranty reasons I am going to hold on to it in case I need to send the laptop in.

Just got my Transcend memory from newegg (1GB x 2) for my xps m140. Great so far, no problems and for an awesome price!
-
Those Transcend Memory with the Samsung chips are highly recommended by many people in terms of price/quality. So I'm sure you'll be fine with it.
-
Ok well I got my memory yesterday. Nothing on the packaging stated that it had Samsung chips, which is what I ordered from Newegg. In looking at the sticks I noticed the chips have "SEC" on them. Does that stand for Samsung Electronics Corp. or something similar? If the sticks aren't Samsung and that is what I paid for then Newegg is going to get an ear full.
-
So, did NewEgg say they were Samsung in their listing?
-
Yes they did.
-
Even if there were errors, these carry a lifetime warranty. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The other thing is it has great reveiws on Newegg. There are always a few people that have problems with the RAM, but that is to be expected (order wrong ram...bad shipping) I haven't read too many reviews where people did like the RAM...especially for the price.
-
I am not saying there were errors, it was just that I paid for the sticks with the Samsung chips. Newegg offers another 1Gb stick from Transcend that isn't Samsung and I believe it is cheaper. If I paid a few more bucks for the premium Samsung and got some other chips that kind of upsets me. Not a huge deal, but still.
-
I think you'll find that SEC is one of the brand markings on Samsung chips. Check this link:

I ordered one of the Transcend modules and really didn't look at the chip markings, Newegg's never pulled a fast one on me.
I plan on ordering another module next week I was really surprised with how much of a boost the extra memory gave my notebook over the 512 MBs it came with. And, putting in 2 Gigs of memory will be more than I'll ever need. -
Thanks sjrnv. I will check out your link.

So I have a 1GB Kingston chip in my 9300 and I want to jump to 2 GB. Does anyone see any problems with sticking in a Transcend chip, or should I stick with the same name brand? I'm really not all that concerned with the dual channel aspect of the RAM as from my research, it's not that big of a deal on the 9300.
Thanks in advance! -

Darthlederhosen,
You can mix and match brands, just make sure they are the same latency and speed. If those match then you should be fine. -
USAFdude02,
Thanks! I'll check the CAS, but I'm sure they match.
THanks again
